THE REMATCH of THE RIVALRY
HILLIARD DAVIDSON WILDCATS (10-1)
-vs-
DUBLIN COFFMAN SHAMROCKS (12-0)
Here we go everyone, the rematch that everyone has been talking about. Davidson is back healthy, Coffman is not. Who wins? Why? Keys to the game?

The newspaper reported that Brett Beuhler (District Def POY) broke his foot.

That is accurate he was on the sidelines on crutches vs. WS. Also, #18 their starting quarterback is out for the season and #90 a defensive end broke his wrist against WS, don't know what his status is.
Will Butler and Delande be at full strength for this game presumably? How much time did they see against PC?

It's too bad that Coffman continues to lose pieces to their team. I think a full strength Coffman team would beat HD by a couple of scores and have a legitimate shot at the title. I will say HD wins by 10.

The rematch of week eight where the Rocks came into Hilliard and beat the 'Cats 10-7.
I see this match-up to be a little bit different than the previous encounter. Davidson returns all of their backfield that missed the first encounter between the two teams while Coffman is missing some key defensive players (if the above information is correct) and obviously, the starting QB from earlier this season. I do think the Rocks will be better offensively, seeing how the QB has had over a month of starting time to shake the butterflies loose.
I find this game more interesting because of the regional finals these two teams have had in prior years. Most recently in 2006, when the Cats won in comeback fashion 28-20, as they marched onto win the school's first ever state football championship. The two also met in 2001, where the 12-0 Wildcats, led by Erik Phillips and co., fell short in a comeback against the Brady Quinn led Rocks 36-21 in what was one of the most exciting games I have witnessed at the high school level.
Since 2001, the Cats hold a 6-4 edge in the series outscoring the Rocks 207-161. So if you average that out, over ten games, it's 21-16ish. Crazy close over the past decade.
I think history shows that when these two bitter rivals hit the field, it's going to be a hard fought battle. Whoever wins will give Region 4 a run for their money.

This is a tough one that could go either way. I'd have to take HD though. HD is healthier than the first meeting this year and it sounds like DC is worse off. I think HD uses what they learned in the first game to win this one.

Thanks for the info. That bodes well for Davidson and it seems to me they hold a serious advantage in this game. I saw the first match up on TV and #49 for Coffman was all over the field making a ton of tackles, he is obviously out, so Coffman loses that edge. And #43 is good as well, but not great like #49.HDvHS FAN wrote:

Also, I was at the Coffman vs. WS game and South's offensive line was controlling the line of scrimmage for the majority of that game (until that final goal line stand, which was impressive to say the least). South's line was very good, but so is Davidson's so if the Coffman defense plays like they did against WS, they could have some issues in this game. Obviously South's and Davidson's offensive attacks are quite different, but that's just an observation I had about the line play.
In my opinion, this one stays very low scoring and Davidson wins 10-6.

I'll be coming in from the OU game just in time to catch the kickoff. Should be a great day of football with OSU/Michigan, of course my OU bobcats, and then the HD/Coffman game!!
I have to think that Jake, Ricco, and Spencer are worth more than 3 points.... not that comparing last game to this one matters. Coffman has proven it can win without Stoudt but I think the Cats may just better the Rocks this time. Either way, I like the way the road to Canton has been paved. I really think Region 3 stands a good chance of representing this year

With the injuries to the Def unit of Coffman, I think I have to give the edge to Davidson. It will be an emotional game so, who knows how the Rock D will perform. Plus, they have the benefit in this regard of having faced the Cats once this year.
In the end, I think the Cats will prevail due to the return of their key players. I wonder how much will come down to the kicking game. Coffman kicker was first team all district while Davidson's was second team.
In the end, Go Region 3!!

Agreed, it was interesting how much of a factor Delande and Butler were on saturday. Butler had a great second half. He looked very quick and averaged almost 4.5 ypc. Delande was also solid all game and averaged 4.7ypc. I don't think you could really ask for more after all the time they missed. I think those two are the difference in this game. They bring such an edge to the offense. One a big bruising back with good power and the other shifty and quick.
