Someone brings a laptop into his class and messes around on it during class. Professor then puts laptop in liquid nitrogen. Yeah..I'd be a little pissed.

Even if it was a rule to not bring laptops into the classroom..that's still getting carried away. I understand you're a teacher and all..but come on man.

I have never seen or heard of a professor to not allow computers in the lecture hall/classroom. A lot of students use them to take notes on.

I'm with CC, I would have went off.

If that was real, it is a complete overeaction on the part of the instructor. You can have rules, and can make your point, but you don't need to destroy personal property.

Seems video taping class (with a cell phone probably) is cool though.

This dude would be waking up with his face in chalk dust.

There's no way it's real... the student would be going irate somewhere if it were.

Seems more like a scare tactic a prof may try on Syllabus Day with a broken laptop the department had as the victim.

(Yeah, I know there's shit on the board, but it could have been from another class whose prof is an asshole who doesn't erase)

had a couple of them at Capital...You couldn't have a laptop or a cell phone. If you had a laptop they would tell you to leave for the day

Come on he was just trying to teach the kids what happens to a laptop when placed into a container of liquid nitrogen. Getting carried away would have been putting the kids hand in liquid nitrogen!

theres no way that someone having their laptop doused in liquid nitrogen is just sitting there giggling.

if it is real, i wonder if the professor realized those students pay his salary.

So the professor is justified in this instance or no? I'm not sure I follow. I agree the kid should not have been messing around on the laptop, but that gives no right to destroy personal property.

However, I am with the rest on this thread and say that this is a setup.

I'd let the professor do it and then promptly file a lawsuit.

I agree it's fake and I also agree I'd be pissed if some professor ever did that to me.

haha i thought it was funny how he was like "well it's just liquid nitrogen, it wont do anything to it....but this will" and then smashes it.

I don't think he was completely anti-laptop, just doing other things on the laptop besides taking notes.

The liquid nitrogen really wouldn't have been a big deal because nothing inside would have really gotten wet. The cold probably would have rendered the computer unusable for maybe an hour until it warmed back.

The professor definitely crossed the line when he threw the computer on the ground. He's definitely responsible for any damage, and while he probably wouldn't be fired for it, he'd definitely be on a short leash. I also don't think that he made his point about laptops as clear as he thought. When he threw the computer down he just looked like a winy self-important professor.
