Dana White was asked this at the event this weekend. He said he would support the idea. I would love to see it become a olympic sport as it would let fighters showcase their talents for the respective countries and also show the many different styles around the world.

you'd have to have the tournament over several months and the olympics would be the finals...you can't have guys fight more than one fight in 2 weeks due to risk of injury.

Bomar very good point. With the medical restrictions put into place you are right. With that said i think it would become hard to do.

Brazil and the US would have say as well LOL!! I would love it but it would be impossible to fight tourny style over that short of time due to injury!

It'd be entertaining and definitely more deserving of TV time than things like synch swimming, ballroom dancing and men's gymnastics, but not feasible due to how after every MMA card, it seems like half the competitors get put on medical suspension for lengthy periods of time.

And I could see major egos getting in the way of certain potential bouts. Regardless of what Dana or anyone might be saying NOW, do you think he'd have ANY desire for a Lesnar-Fedor bout that isn't completely under his thumb?

I am surprised Dana White would support his best assets fighting for another company while he gets no money and risks them being hurt. Also, as others have said the logistics wouldn't work out that well.

I'm a HUGE MMA fan, and I say no for many of the reasons above.

You can't really do a tournament and so how do you pick the top say 4 from each weigth class fighting for medals?

There are already many martial arts without the full contact of MMA in the Olympics, full contact is way to hard to do tourney style.

Oh, and about the "Russia would dominate" BS.

Listen, Fedor is a beast and can't be touched, but that is 1 weight class.

As Fab said, the US and Brazil would battle it out for most weight classes save WW, Canada would win that one.

Couldn't do it due to time constraints, but a submission grappling tournament would be pretty cool. Certainly more deserving than a lot of sports already in the Olympics.

Russia(Fedor) would be the favorite at HW as well.

and Penn would probably refuse to compete since he doesn't view himself as an American, so LW would be pretty wide open as well.

But yeah, top to bottom, the US and Brazil run the show.

Might want to reread my post, I said Fedor couldn't be touched, but that's just one weight class.

Silver and Bronze at HW would be fought between the US and Brazil.

Gold, Silver, and Bronze at LHW would be between US and Brazil (With Mousasi being the other in there).

Gold, Silver, and Bronze at MW would be all Brazil and US.

Gold at WW would go to Canada and the US/Brazil would win both Silver and Bronze.

LW would be US with possibly Japan having a say in a medal with someone like Aoki or Gomi.

FW would be mostly US and Japan.

BW would be mostly US and Mexico.
