Roy Williams actually compared the feeling of losing a basketball game to duke to what the people of haiti are feeling after a major earthquake. what a douche. spend a couple of weeks in haiti with no phones, food , or water, and oh yeah, a home, and then get back to us. again, what a douche.

"On February 1st at my weekly radio show I made a comment about a colleague telling me that Haiti was a catastrophe and we were just having a difficult season," Williams said in a statement. "I said that does put basketball in perspective.

"However, Tuesday, at a press conference, I referenced her comment again but I neglected to say that it puts basketball in perspective. In no way am I equating the tragedy in Haiti with basketball. I'm sorry that my statement at the press conference made it seem like I was comparing the two. The people of Haiti are suffering through unimaginably difficult times. I know very well that we are just playing a game."

Yes, he did say it. And he took a lot of heat for it around the country. However, I was already jumped for starting a similar thread, as it has no relevance because Coach K didn't say it.

Roy quote in CNNSI:
Roy Williams wrote:"Our massage therapist told me, 'You know, coach, what happened in Haiti is a catastrophe. What you're having is a disappointment,' " said Williams. "I told her that depends on what chair you're sitting in. It does feel like a catastrophe to me, because it is my life."
Nowhere in that quote is there any bit of anything that would indicate Roy was actually just putting basketball into perspective. Come on, he mentioned this exact quote above to two different media outlets -- first to the CNNSI writer and then in his daily press conference -- in what appears to have been just another attempt to pull the "woe is me" card that he's so famous for. In neither mention did he EVER mention the "putting basketball into perspective" speech.

He was backpedaling after the simmer turned to a boil.

Why hasn't this thread been closed down for having All caps in the Title?

^^That was part of his backpedaling campaign after the nation caught wind of his "woe is me" comments. Did you not read my last post? Roy NEVER mentioned anything remotely close to that "it really puts basketball into perspective" the-more-you-know crap when reciting his masseuse story two either CNNSI or during his daily media conference.

Not once. Backpedaling, baby. Something Roy's team has done quite a bit this year.

Who fucking cares???

He didn't compare this season to what happened in Haiti. He said that this is season is a catastrophe to him. Telling the massage therapist that from HER eyes this season was only a disappointment, but to HIM it is a catastrophe.

NOT THE SAME AS SAYING HAITI WASN'T/ISN'T A CATASTROPHE.

Get over it.

You are doing exactly what those people do when Coach K says something that someone took out of context.

I care because prescott is trying to make it as if Roy mentioned the "basketball perspective" thing from the beginning. Untrue.

Also, Coach K, and I am 100% confident in this, would never say anything like this in front of the media -- especially twice.

Ha, some troll guy who was a big Blue Devils backer (we Duke fans here never took ownership of him, however). We're not really sure where he went, though. He disappeared on the old Huddle some years ago and no one has heard of him since.

I just find it funny that this is being made a big deal. He in no way compared the two.

He basically said that he felt what was happening to UNC is a catastrophe.. and it is. He's taking this season harder than he probably should, but I'm glad we have a coach who really cares about this program and what it stands for...

Also, Haiti has no bearing on his life, so yes, UNC is more important to him.. What happened in Haiti was terrible, but in reality, it doesn't have any affect on any of us unless you know somebody there or have ties to Haiti. A lot of you guys are digging deep to get dirt on Roy. He's a class act and does a lot for not only the university, but the community. He's also brought UNC back with two titles.

I don't have time for this right now, but there are no bad feelings between K and Gaudet. Gaudet was actually happy to be back in Durham this past weekend for the celebration of Coach K's 1000th game at Duke. He was even introduced at half court and embraced with K. Gaudet has never place any blame for that season or anything that happened as a result on anyone else.

The fact remains, Coach K didn't coach in those games. That's number one. Number two is the fact that Coach K wanted those losses on his record. Duke's athletic director at the time made the decision to record them as Gaudet's. He was the interim coach while K was in the hospital and later on bed rest. I'm not sure how you could call K the bad guy in all of this. Gaudet has stated numerous times that he didn't live up to the expectations he should have. He's a class act, and owned up to inefficiencies in this situation. All has been put in the past. He's a part of the Duke family, and everyone's grateful for the time he gave to Duke. He was there for two national titles and seven Final Fours as senior assistant. That's impressive.

This is issue has been discussed here ad nauseam, however, and, frankly, isn't one. Thanks for proving your Blue Devil fandom even further, though.

Just so everyone knows, prescott deleted his "Coach K took the losses off his record in 1994-95" post. Which sat above mine.

Sneaky.

Don't let prescott fool you. He made an unfounded jab at K and then deleted it. Or should I say backpedalled.

Whatever, though.
