I do have a serious question. This whole combine thing is just a crosscheck for the college film on the players. Why don't they do some of the drills in pads and helmets ? They are playing football, not running track.

Never understood why they don't do it in pads.

Good question. With the way some "ooh & ahh" over these Combine numbers it looks like he may have gotten himself back into the 1st round. Body like an adonis, plays like a pussy.

Taylor Mays beasted it up at the combine with a 4.43 40, 41 inch vert, and 24 reps on the bench, but Mays was expected to be a combine warrior.

I wouldn't be too concerned with Haden's 40 time. The kid can flat out play. He's a playmaker that plays in arguably the best conference in college football. He's playing against quite a few WR's that will likely be playing on Sunday's in the near future. Plus there's always that thing called 'Pro Day" in which I'm sure he'll likely redeem himself.

The Browns had a couple of small, slow corners named Dixon & Minnifield that did just fine. They weren't near the athlete that Haden is.

That's why I hate the Combine. Players should be able to hurt their draft standings (by showing up severly overweight, character issues, etc) but they shouldn't be able to help them (by running a fast 40 like Mays).

This is where NFL scouts/front office personnel really make their money...you cannot take players based on potential or combine numbers because those numbers don't measure (USUALLY) will to succeed, heart, passion, and hardwork. Those 4 things will trump NFL combine numbers any day of the week, and that's where teams with good drafts separate themselves from the rest of the teams.

Well, while I love Minni and Hanford, you can't compare the game and the speed of the game from the 80's to what it is now. Not to mention it's a pass first league now, and there are receivers out there that just burn you.

Haden's time is worrisome, but not as worrisome as his lack of preparation. He shouldn't have prepared at his dad's facility. When you're being talked as a top 10 pick, you need to prepare at one, and go to an NFL recommended facility to improve every aspect of your combine.

Haden is still going to be a top corner someday, but I think he slips out of the top 10.

I love how these guys train at their colleges for 4 years with a strength and conditioning coach who prepares them for every game and then all of a sudden, they graduate and most move to Phoenix to train for a 40 yard dash. Doesn't make much sense to me.
