The Lakers are currently beating the poop out of the Jazz, one of the hottest teams in the NBA, without Kobe or Bynum. Also, they are undefeated without kobe this season. What gives? Why are the Lakers better without Kobe?

Definitely kind of weird. It shows how good the other parts are around him. It kind of seems like the other guys are enjoying the freedom. Kobe is great but I think I'd get annoyed by his volume scoring ways at times. This is starting to look like a Patrick Ewing-theory situation for all you Bill Simmons fans.

Yeah, but I think there needs to be longer term success for it to get Ewing theory consideration. Like Kobe being out for half a season and everyone writing them off and then the Lakers exceeding expectations and having one of the best records in the west. Still, if you told me the Lakers would be beating the Jazz by 20 with Kobe out, I would have told you that you were crazy. Maybe you're on to something about it giving the other guys some freedom. It probably lets them feel a bit looser out there without Kobe breathing down their necks if they miss a shot.jordo212000 wrote: Definitely kind of weird. I havent been watching the games. How many players have been in the rotation? If its more than 7, without bynum and kobe, i think it debunks the pitiful bench myth.

I wonder what the Cavs would do without Lebron. I don't think the Cavs would win a game w/out him. Goes to show you how good Kobes supporting cast is.

Just goes to show you just how good the Lakers are when they try.
If I was the NBA, I'd be terrified of this team come May.

The Lakers are a scary team without the 32% behind the arc shooter stinking up the court. Cavs need for him to be healthy come June.

I wouldn't underestimate Kobe's value come play-off time. You Cav's fans who say you hope he's ready better not wish too hard. You might get exactly what you're asking for. I dislike the Lakers with a very large passion, but I would have to say that the Cav's chances go up exponentially if Kobe is out of the line-up. Please don't misunderstand me here. I want Kobe to play because I think the Title should be contested with all the best players on the floor, but if you fear that LeBron will soon leave Cleveland if they don't win him a Title, you'd better hope that Kobe can't play. Otherwise, I'm afraid that at least half of your prediction will come true.

Over the long haul, the Lakers are better w/ Kobe. To think they aren't is ridiculous. This coming from someone who despises Kobe & the Lakers!

The Lakers are now 12-14 w/o Kobe
About the same isn't now???
The Laker bench and especially Odom and Gasol needed this kick in the ass to make them start playing harder.
Laker haters keep thinking they are better without Kobe.
We will see the Cavs in June unless the Cavs don't show up like the last 2 years.

Odom and Gasol are playing harder because they actually get the ball now.
Once Kobe goes back their touches will be limited and Gasol will start complaining pubically once again. Maybe Kobe realizes that he needs to shoot less and focus on getting the ball inside.

Won't happen. When it comes to Kobe...it's all about Kobe. Been that way ever since the Shaq days.
Funny how we never hear LBJ's teammates rip on LBJ. Not ever...not even one time.

Jordan's teammates couldn't stand him, even got in fights with him at practice, I guess it was all about MJ too. Magic publicaly called for the Lakers to fire their Head Coach, I guess it was all about Magic.Footwedge wrote:devil1197 wrote: Odom and Gasol are playing harder because they actually get the ball now.
