Yea I mean don't get me wrong I support and will always support the Indians. But I realize that the only way they'll ever have a chance at competing for a World Series again is if they have a new owner. Therefore not spending money on them will help this goal. Hopefully Dan Gilbert develops an interest in baseball.

I don't totally disagree with either of you on this point. Everyone is fed up with the current ownership and direction of the team. I definitely won't go to the 10-15 games per year that I have in the past, but to me there is still nothing better than going to an MLB game during the summer. The Tribe has some young talent that will play hard, plus you get to see some of the best players in the world, although they will be playing for the other teams. That being said, I am definitely going to make it to a Clipper game or 2 as well as a few Aeros games to make up for the trips I will not be making to the Jake.

Kind of ironic that these posts would follow each other. They "only spend 65 million on payroll" follows a post from a fan saying that they "aren't paying to go to any games" That is the Catch 22. Fans expect their teams to pony up the money when the fans won't even do that themselves. Poor attendance causes the team to have less money to spend, and less money to spend equals a $65 million payroll.miller45452003 wrote: They need new ownership. Spending a mere 65 million on payroll isn't gonna get you much (other than TB a few years ago). Besides, wtf does it matter? We'll just groom another Cy Young or MVP caliber player and trade him off for a bag of peanuts and a has been 35 year old. Indians baseball is getting really unwatchable. I've been a fan of them my whole life and used to spend quite a bit of coin going to games. Not this year...i'll watch it on the tube.
But yeah, the Indians are probably going to be bad. No real pitching to speak of and alot of their young guys are guys I watched a few times in Columbus this past year (all of them save LaPorta look like they are going to be average to below average). LaPorta is a good hitter but he seems to me that he is a 1B or DH. I don't know why they think he can play the OF on a regular basis. He cost the Clippers many runs last year out there.

Not saying that Gilbert isn't a good owner, or wouldn't be a good baseball owner, but c'mon the guy walked into a great situation. Lebron James on your team assures of 45+ wins regardless of who the GM, coach, and other players arekrazie45 wrote: Hopefully Dan Gilbert develops an interest in baseball.

Baseball is broken and those who run the game don't care -- so long as Boston, New York, Los Angeles and a few other franchises are healthy.
There's no parity and no attempt to create parity.
It's one reason I simply stopped following the Indians and baseball a few years ago. I'd finally had enough. This from a guy who listened to/watched every game from the time I was in my early teens until I was in my 40s.
Funny thing...I find I don't miss it at all. I just bide my time until football season gets here.

No doubt he did, but Dan Gilbert does 2 things that the Dolan's don't do and you see the difference in how the two franchises are run. Gilbert takes care of the fans/his players (ie upgrades to the Q, creating great promotions/entertainment at Cavs games, upgrades to the locker room, new practice facility) and Gilbert is willing to spend money to win (ie how he usually goes over the luxury tax to put the team in position to win a championship). Not to mention that Gilbert actually HAS money and can finance the team, it's a secondary prospect for him not a main source of income like it is for Dolan. Dan Gilbert is everything a pro sports owner should be, Larry Dolan is everything a pro sports owner shouldn't be.jordo212000 wrote: Not saying that Gilbert isn't a good owner, or wouldn't be a good baseball owner, but c'mon the guy walked into a great situation. I'll always follow them.HitsRus wrote:devil1197 wrote: I'll give them a month or two, these young guys need our support imo. Its not their fault.
a month or two...hahahha you better give them about 2 years.
The great thing though, is that with no expectations, the trolls are going to have to find something else to justify their existence.
What I mean't with the 1-2 months is that I won't call them terrible until I see some games. You never know what can happen.
