You're right. Retard is not an offensive word. What was I thinking.....

I especially wouldn't expect the mother of a mentally retarded child to be offended by the use of the word "retard" in a derogatory sense.

You're so right. I would have gone through life avoiding calling ppl. retards because I thought I would offend someone who is or knows a person who is mentlly retarded, but by quoting Wikipedia you've shown me that retard is perfectly acceptable. I often hear adults calling people retards, but I thought it was in poor taste. In fact, I'm the one who's been missing out....

By the way, the term moron is no longer in scientific use.

I saw this joke somewhere today.....

Q: What's the difference between Palin's mouth and vagina?

A: Only some of the things that come out of her vagina are retarded.

By the way, I despise Rush, but he was dead on with his opinion.

And speaking of Jonny Stewart....I enjoyed his shrinking violet impression in front of O'Riley the other night.
I had thought the same thing about Stewart, but the next night Keith Olberman played a bunch of exchanges that O'Reilly edited out of the show and Stewart looked much more forceful in the stuff that didn't make it on TV (shocking). Apparently the desired end result of making Stewart look like a "shrinking violet" as you said was achieved.

That's hilarious. I would've thought it offensive before, but since Sarah herself would have no problem with that joke, it's perfectly ok with me...

Oh it's definitely offensive, but that's why its funny.

Q: What sport will Palin's son run in high school?

A: The 50 IQ dash.

Any word used in a derogatory sense would be offensive.

If you don't want to call anyone a retard that is great. You are ok with calling people morons (evan though it is offensive to some as well) that is fine too. I gave you the history of the word moron. You dance around it. You attempt to play the wikipedia card yet you can't prove the citation wrong. I can site wikipedia as a source for George Washington's birthdate. Would that be bullshit too? Can you refute wikipedia on this?

No, did he use those same jokes? I would give him major props if he threw out some retard jokes.

I just heard his audio on a radio show I listen to.

And as I pointed out in my above post #25 retardation is on its way out as well.

She doesn't even know what the meaning of "satire" is. And, probably shouldn't make fun of a man using a teleprompter when you write notes on your hands reminding you of concepts that a middle-school kid could remember.

She brought this one on herself.

Stewart has made fun of Obama with the teleprompter, now it is her turn.
Had she put the notes on a 3X5 card (which 99% of all speakers do) than this story wouldn't even exist. You're trying to make hay slamming her for doing something that everybody does.

Lest we forget as well, that at no time has anyone pumped Palin as God's Gift to Public Speaking, unlike He Who Will Not Be Named.

That's what makes Bam's TOTUS addiction so funny. That, and his multiple Ron Burgandy episodes.

And speaking of Jonny Stewart....I enjoyed his shrinking violet impression in front of O'Riley the other night. ;)
Everyone doesn't put three of the most basic tenants of conservative belief on their hands, no way in hell should she need to remember those with a note card or anything of the like.

Everyone puts their main talking points on notes, whether they're the "main tenants" of anything or not...Public Speaking 101.

I guarandamntee you that Gibby walks into the briefing room every day with at least one card with the left's version of "Energy, Budget, Tax, Spirits" on it.

I don't know about you or Palin but when I make a speech I always put general principles in my notes. To serve as reminders as to what to expound upon in detail. After all you can't list details (unless you have a teleprompter). I note the basics and expound upon the details from my heart/mind.

I didn't think Stuart performed that well but I wouldn't go so far as to call him a shrinking violet.

No gotcha here Lad. I find some of your posts on this forum inciteful and challenging. I do admit I am quite anal when it comes to PC and political word linching. In an ideal world I wish everyone's comments could be taken with a grain of salt in proper context.

After all, why is it considered racist by some to associate those of African decent with liking fried chicken and not the same for those of Italian decent liking pasta dishes? Personally I like both. Why should we abide by these "moronic" rules? You could substitute moronic with retarded, idiotic, looney, etc.. It just depends on the PC winds of the day.

This is just something I happend across today. The author of the article is no profound politician, educator, intellectual, or elitist but just a common man with a common sense take on the discussion we have partaken in this thread. He makes a hell of alot more sense than any of the talking heads in the media and politics today.

Edited Clips from the Jon Stewart interview

I think Iggey is right. If you'd like to watch other parts of the interview you can see them here.

Interesting. I suspected something like that afoot...as Jonny seemed uncharacteristically timid.

Anyone else find it ironic that the subject of editing an interview to change perception of the subject should come up on a thread about Sarah Palin?
