I know I know...huffPo...source blows...omgz

But seriously, how can she call out Rahm and then not call out Rush? Or am I missing something, did she condemn it and did they not report it?

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201002040043

so this site says her handlers issued a statement...can she come out and call for Rush's job? I doubt it.

meh, Emanuel should be fired for being an idiot and an asshat. Hell, he and Holder should both be canned for their foolish decisions regarding the terror trial in NY and the way the Christmas Day bomber interrogation was (mis)handled.

Holder because he's in the head legal guy -- and Emanuel because it's pretty common knowledge that all of Obama's decisions get run through him to gauge the political winds before anything final is decided, even security and military stuff.

C'mon...Apples to oranges. White House Chief of Staff vs. radio talk show host.

The obsession by the left over Palin and Limbaugh continues to fascinate me.

^^ This. Despite the instance of the Left, Rush holds no political office. What's more, this administration was supposed to be the most open-minded administration in history. You know, the one that was supposed to bring everyone of all races, abilities, gender, sexual orientation and religion together.

Gimmie a break. You'd think that someone with a mentally challenged child would stand up against someone using that term. This has nothing to do with the position of one man or the other. It has to do with not wanting to offend all the Rush sheeple who will vote for Crazy Sarah in '12.

You know, the mothers listening to Rush during the day, while they home-school their 8 kids.....

Derek, you are missing something. Rahm spoke out of shear ignorance and a total disregard for the position he holds. Rush was simply doing a satire bit about Rahm, using Rahm's choice of words.

Clear enough for 'ya??

If I called a black person the N word, but said I was just being satirical because I had heard him say it to his buddy, I don't think I'd get away with it.

Maybe if you'd have spent your life trying to better the lives of the retards, you'd get a pass...kinda like Harry did with the Negroes.

Why did Palin become so upset then about Letterman? Wasn't that done in just satire?

But Letterman is of hollywood, therefore he's lib. In otherwords, he'd never vote for her crazy ass anyway so it's okay to attack him.....

I'm not sorry I laughed. That was funny....

Why did Palin become so upset then about Letterman?
Because his attack was aimed at her child. Most mothers will protect their children.

Because the attack was aimed at her 14 year old daughter. I'd be upset if anyone joked about raping my 14 year old daughter, as would you. Pretty easy to figure out why she was upset.

So, a mother with a mentally handicapped child doesn't take offense at the use of the word retard, in any context??? I don't use that word anymore because it offends me (and I'm not in fifth grade anymore) and I know it's hurtful to ppl. and derogatory. I don't have any children and I don't wanna hear it. I especially wouldn't wanna hear it if I had a special needs chiild....

Would you tell a joke where the punchline was "something, something retard" in the presence of a person who you knew had a mentally handicapped child???

As for Letterman, he specifically called out Palin's child by name. That I put in a different category.

I don't think a mother with a metally handicapped child should take offense at the word retard used in any context. Only if it is being used in a context ment to be hurtful and derogatory. You chose not to use the word "retard" but yet have no problem using the word "moron", both of which have the same meaning. Retard is just the current offensive "gothcha" buzzward of the day. Personally I think Palin is being selective with her outrage on the retard issue.

Depends on the context of the use of the word and the audience. None of the people being lambasted for the use of the word retard are telling retard jokes in front of mentally handicapped children. They are using common uses of the term many of us grew up using and the PC crowd comes out of the woodwork to use it as some kind of political/public football.

Jon Stewart also did a nice bit on Palin as well. :D

She doesn't even know what the meaning of "satire" is. And, probably shouldn't make fun of a man using a teleprompter when you write notes on your hands reminding you of concepts that a middle-school kid could remember.

She brought this one on herself.

Stewart has made fun of Obama with the teleprompter, now it is her turn.

A global radio show is about as inclusive of an audience as you'll find, therefore he is using the word in front of handicap children, adults, and parents of the children.

The word "retard" is shortened from Mental Retardation so, in fact, it's unlike the use of the word moron, idiot, or whatever else.....

I'm certainly not PC, but poking fun at the less fortunate is not my idea of entertainment and certainly not in the middle of the afternoon. Satire involving handicapped people is about as low as it gets, so it doesn't shock me that Rush is involved. And it also is not surprising that Palin is selling-out to the talking head of Republican douchebaggery.

Last time I worked in Ohio....MR was a viable designation of special education. MR stands for something and I had to go in every IEP meeting and say "your child qualifies for special education services due to their classification of MR" =mentally retarded. That is straight from the Ohio special education handbook.

Had she put the notes on a 3X5 card (which 99% of all speakers do) than this story wouldn't even exist. You're trying to make hay slamming her for doing something that everybody does.

Lest we forget as well, that at no time has anyone pumped Palin as God's Gift to Public Speaking, unlike He Who Will Not Be Named.

That's what makes Bam's TOTUS addiction so funny. That, and his multiple Ron Burgandy episodes.

And speaking of Jonny Stewart....I enjoyed his shrinking violet impression in front of O'Riley the other night. ;)

The word was not used in a derogatory manner. It would never have been mentioned on the program had the PC crowd not tried to use the Rahm comment as a political wedge.
The word "retard" is shortened from Mental Retardation so, in fact, it's unlike the use of the word moron, idiot, or whatever else.....
So. You think that makes it any different. It is just like the term moron. Moron was once a scientific term used to describe a mental condition. At some point it became an offensive term. Retardardation is also going in the same direction. Government agencies meant to deal with the mentally disabled are dropping retardardation. In Ohio what used to be MRDD is now DODD.

Wikipedia:
"Moron" was coined in 1910 by psychologist Henry H. Goddard[3] from the Ancient Greek word ????? (moros), which meant "dull" (as opposed to "sharp"), and used to describe a person with a mental age located between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale.[4] It was once applied to people with an IQ of 51-70, being superior in one degree to "imbecile" (IQ of 26-50) and superior in two degrees to "idiot" (IQ of 0-25). The word moron, along with others including "retarded", "idiotic", "imbecilic", "stupid", and "feeble-minded", was formerly considered a valid descriptor in the psychological community, but it is now deprecated by psychologists.[5]

Rush was not poking fun at the less fortunate. If you believe that you are reading some media bastardization (Oh no! Did I just offend illegitemate children) of his comments. I am sure you can't stand Rush and I can't stand Rahm, but neither of them would ever poke fun or disparage those less fortunate. I refuse to buy into the PC winds of the day. You can make your own choice.
