Not funny so far...
Not a good answer to the previous "new" episode.

I'm calling it now, after watching this show since Episode 1....
JUMP. THE. SHARK.
Kathy Bates as the new CEO??? Really???
The stuff that made this show funny relied on how it played to real life situations that made the characters believable...Now, not so much.

Awful, everyone's IQ this season has fallen by 30 points, except Michael who's fallen by 40.
How can they not pronounce "sabre", in Scranton? 3 seasons ago someone would have made a snarky comment, now everyone is a complete dumbass.

Oh and the writing has been very lazy. Michael upset with management... again? Is he going to quit again? How does a manager get to leave in the middle of his 1st day with a new boss?

3 1/2 plotlines:
1) Introduction to Sabre: gag is no one in the office can pronounce it, especially Andy who went to Cornell and would likely know about the Buffalo Sabres.
2) Pam and Jim and daycare: gag is guy is taking a dump in the children's bathroom
3) David Wallace post-DMI: a pathetic drunk
1/2) Andy and Erin: who cares?
Crazy how far this show has fallen in such a short time.

The difference between seasons 1-3 and the last 2 is night & day.

i am not going to dismiss this season yet. all the first episode was doing was setting it up. hopefully they can go somewhere with it now. when you leave a lot of questions to be answered like they did when the last season ended, they had to try and cover them all this episode first.

6, the Banker (i.e. clip show) was the last episode.
Season 1 was a short season and was more or less an introduction to the characters.
Season 2 was a full season and IMO was one of the best years of any tv show ever
Season 3 was a cut below season 2, but still awesome
Season 4 started to get a bit weird (Michael hitting Meredith with a car, Michael driving in a lake, Michael kidnapping a pizza guy, Michael doing something stupid, etc. you get the picture) but at least it halfway kept the "mockumentary" concept and was hurt a bit by the writer's strike.
Season 5 was a full season and started to lose all sense of reality, but had a few good moments.
This season has sucked.

Pretty good summary there. I agree that season 2 was the best. Most people will say season 3.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: 6, the Banker (i.e. clip show) was the last episode.

You gotta tell them to watch it from the very first episode. It's all about character development.ou1980 wrote: You know, its BS episodes like this that make us look stupid when we tell our friends "Yeah, the Office is hilarious" and the reply thats met with "I don't think its funny, can't get into it."

I didn't laugh at that...but I did laugh out loud at two lines:The_Crosby_Show wrote: The only time I laughed in tonight's episode is when Jim walked in on the guys taking a dump.

Yep another lame one. They only part I enjoyed was andy playing the guitar and singing. With Jim being a co manager and married to Pam it completely changes the show. I don't really see it getting much better.

These were my two thoughts exactly after last night's episode. People have been saying that the show had jumped the shark for a while, but I thought there was still potential. After last night, I officially believe that the shark has been jumped. The show has gotten so far from what made it great in the first place, and not in a good way. Writers like to get creative and do new things, and sometimes they forget what made a show popular to begin with. A show must evolve, but sometimes it can evolve too much. For an example of a show that evolved but also stayed true to itself look at Scrubs.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: 3 1/2 plotlines:

Crazy how far this show has fallen in such a short time.
I also noticed that there were a ton of plot lines last night and the only major one that will likely continue past this episode is the issue of Sabre coming in and taking over (although the Andy/Erin thing will continue). There was just way to much going on.
At this point, I have a really hard time seeing how they can make this funny again and salvage the series. They probably do one more season for syndication purposes and that will be it. Quite sad because for a few years there it was such a great show. Now it's just awkward.
