I really think if you look at it I think he has a very good chance...His stats are better then John Walls, and Ohio State would not be what they are without Turner...I know Wall has done alot for Kentucky, but look at his supporting cast compared to what Turner has....

What does everyone else think?

I think if Turner hadn't missed six games he'd be the leader. I still think it is between him and Wall. (IMO) A few others are there as well. I can't comment too much because outside of OSU and Kentucky I haven't watched much basketball this year.

So to answer the question yes Turner can win it.

I really think he is the most deserving player....his stats are just unreal....

18.9 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 5.7 rpg, and 1.9 spg.....

Those are pretty crazy stats....and he is doing it versus everybody....not just the push overs...

Absolutely. OSU could very well finish a top 10 team, and if they do, he is probably the favorite.

Wall's play has kind of leveled off with the emergence of Cousins, who I think is just as much of a POY candidate as Wall is.

You will still have Aldrich and maybe a couple other names, but Turner is as deserving as anyone else.

Turner has my vote. Top to bottom, there's not a player better in college basketball. One possession he is seen bringing the ball up the floor and the next possession he creates a mismatch under the basket and posts up for an easy lay in. He is hands down the most versatile player this year.

Can he? Absolutely. Will he? Who knows...so much PR crap that goes on, players can be overlooked because others have done nothing but read about someone else, namely Wall. Wall is good, no question. But I don't believe he is as good as the hype that he had coming out of HS. I think Cousins is having a better year then Wall, IMO. And I actually really like Bledsoe game as well. But Wall will be mentioned because he was the #1 hyped recruit and plays at UK.
Turner, IMO, is the best overall/all around player in the country. His stats speak for themselves. And it was evident what he does for his team, when he was out for that month. He can do it all, and DOES do it all!
For those who haven't read this article, read it. It will put into perspective, just how good of a year Turner is having.

Can someone change my vote from yes to no please? The title says "can" and poll says "will." I figured the title of the thread would translate to poll question.

If BYU keeps winning, Jimmer Fredette is going to get some votes.

My vote goes to Turner. And I'm biased in the other direction, so that's saying something.

He'll definitely be in the running, but nobody knows for sure right now if he will or not. There are a lot of other damn good players out there. As we all know, team success will most likely play some type of factor in who wins the award. Along with some of the other possible candidates already mentioned, I think Wesley Johnson (Syracuse), Luke Harangody (Notre Dame), and possibly Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) might have a shot as well.

The POY race is wide open as of now. A lot will depend how teams finish, but Turner is certainly in the mix.

If the Villain can continue to play at the level he is, and Ohio State can finish fairly high in the rankings, there's no reason to believe he can't win the POY.

I think he's just as deserving as Wall and Reynolds, for sure. And Turner means more to his team than what the other 2 do. What Turner has been able to do with his supporting class is unreal.

Think about it. Turner's comrades include:

Diebler: Streaky shooter, can't do much besides shoot the ball
Buford: Legit scorer, can be incosistent though
Lauderdale: Undersized for the Center position, still raw, no where near being dominant
Lighty: Can be offensively challenged at times. Lately, he's been doing better.

No matter what awards he wins, he still won't win Big Ten POY. They'll find a way to screw him.

I think it depends on how Ohio State finish. Walls already has the edge playing for a top 5 team. If Ohio State can crack the top 10 and advance to a sweet 16, then Turner will have a great shot.

Turner is the best all around player in college basketball this year.

His stats prove it.

He is putting up numbers that are fairly rare in college basketball circles. If he doesn't win POY -- assuming he stays healthy and finishes with his averages at about what they are now -- then there should be an investigation.

I agree with Turner being a candidate, but to say his stats are off-the-charts good isn't true.

Evan Turner
18.9 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 5.7 APG

Unknown Player
21.6 PPG, 11.2 PPG, 2.8 BPG

The unknown player is very good, will be playing in the NCAA Tournament and might get some All-American votes, but has no shot at NPOY and most likely won't be on any All-American teams.

Lets also remember Turner is the #1 offensive option on his team, is the point-guard and is the 2nd biggest starter on the floor. This helps him in all three of his highly productive categories. He also plays on a very thin team with only 6 players who are taking more than 2 shots per game.

These are all things in his FAVOR to win NPOY, but it doesn't mean he deserves it over others because of his stats. Clearly, his opportunity to produce more has helped with these numbers.

Stephen Curry scored 29 PPG, dished out 6 APG and grabbed 5 RPG last season. He certainly should have been in the discussion, but he didn't win NPOY.
