They were successful as a class in their early years when they were playing against their own grade level (7th, 8th and 9th grades), so many fans expected great success from them later on. While they may not have won any state titles, they missed the playoffs by a fraction of a fraction of a point and that is the most success Creek has seen in a while! The point is, were they a bit over-hyped? Maybe. But were they a talented group that did good things for the program? YES!
The current team is expected to be good because as primarily sophomores and juniors, they held their own against teams comprised primarily of seniors and some juniors. A .500 season when AT MOST five seniors were starting is promising!
Outdoorsman, Buck is correct. We have a good potential qb. The only disadvantage will be losing him as a receiver! As for replacing Otto, that may pose a problem. He is a very diverse and talented athlete and I do not think one specific player will be able to take Otto's entire role. However, there is a lot of young talent and as a team they can compensate for that loss!
I am also not willing to throw Connor under the bus just yet. However, if he is unable to capitalize on all of the experience his young players have received and develop a playoff-worthy team in the next two years, THEN we may have a problem!
Maybe the problem for IC was that you needed to aim lower then a dynasty in 2010. Maybe it should have been "A Fraction Of A Fraction Of Improvement In 2010" Ya need to start somewhere and starting AT a dynasty is not how it works. 5-5 in 07', 2-8 in 08', 6-4 in 09' and a possible 5-5 or 6-4 in 10' that's not a framework of success for a DYNASTY.
Here, I'll give you your shirt idea for 2011......"COMPETE & QUALIFY".
