Nobody can match up evenly with Bolyard and Wasson. But if there were two players that could do it, it would be Caldwell (who I'm guessing would guard Bolyard) and Orr (on Wasson). Smithville was able to get Wasson in foul trouble the first time they met, and I don't believe Smithville had Frizell that game, which might have changed some things as well. It will be interesting if those two meet again. Either way, it's going to be a fun and exciting tournament! It's great having so many local teams in the same district tournament - short drives means high fan turnout, and more rivalries in the post-season! Until then, good luck to all area schools.

Dalton would love to be down here as well and avoid the one hour trip to Garfield Heights! Orrville is definitely the favorite here - lots of talent and battle tested. Smithville plus frizell, Triway, Hillsdale, and Northwestern have the ability to knock off anyone here, though. If smithville is hitting their 3's they will really be dangerous as long as they don't start settling for them like they sometimes do. Even though the smithies have a lot of size, Orrville's Wasson is the best true post as orr and caldwell are really more 3 type players - I think that inside adavntage is what gets orrville over the hump.

Great point. I could see the dist. title game getting moved...especially if it involves and Orrville/Smithville/Triway in some combination.

The district seeding got a little more interesting last night when Triway knocked off Orrville. Now, Orrville still has the better "body of work" and many more quality wins than anybody else, so do they still deserve the #1 seed even after a 1-point OT loss in The Pit? Triway should be seeded ahead of Smithville and Hillsdale, IMO... but Orrville and Triway is the point of discussion. We will find out what is more important to the coaches next Sunday - body of work or head-to-head... I think both Orrville and Triway have earned the #1 spot, but we'll see who gets it.

i tend to agree with you pitman, i do think smithville took a big step up with the return of frizell who they have been without most of the year. He is their best, most experienced guard and an excellent 3 point shooter. The rest of their guards can shoot it as well which really makes orr/caldwell a tough matchup.

what a great game this was both teams had the game won and lost it multiple times. fun for us watching but not so fun for those coaching.

as far as seeding goes I think orrville still gets the one seed. this was a one point loss in ot AT the pit. great atmosphere for basketball and an advantage for the titan's. I think a second game on a neutral court could offer a different result

this looks pretty good justafan, but I do have to wonder about your 3 and 4. I believe they have the same records and hillsdale beat smithville twice. (I do think a fully healthy smithville like they are now is better than hillsdale). I also still think orrville comes out of this district, but anyone in the top 5 has a legitimate chance.

How would Triway still be number two after they lost and Smithville waxed Dalton yesterday? They are a new team with Frizell... Dalton scored six points on them in the first quarter.

Because Triway lost to Timken... a LITTLE different of a team than Dalton. Haha!!

Well, my picks would have been Triway, Orrville, Hillsdale and Smithville. It seems its worked out that way anyway. I'm not sure Hillsdale is running from Smithville, but is more likely running from Triway. After Hillsdale came to the top half of the bracket does Smithville have to go to the bottom?

Not quite sure what Mr. Russell is saying? The 5th and 7th teams went in Smithvilles sectional rather than someone else's. The top three teams were already on the board before Smithville, so how can they be running from them. 5th on down could choose where they wanted to go and two of the next three chose Smithville's sectional. Northwestern chose Orrville because they played them close.

Norwayne, Tuslaw, Waynedale, Chippewa all had chances to play Smithville and they went elsewhere. So Smithville gets to play the last seed.

Norwayne's easy to explain because they get to play a team they can beat in BR before meeting a top seed. Why would you play a higher seed first? This is your best chance to play more. Tuslaw has played Triway twice and doesn't want to be in their side of the bracket. Tuslaw's choice is a little puzzling since they could have gone to where BR and Norwayne were and play one of them first and possibly get to play two games. Waynedale can sit one game and be in the sectional final without playing anyone and they have only two other choices and that's a seeded team in a first game. Chippewa has the choice of Triway or Smithville first. Their coach has to take his wife out to dinner on Saturday so if they're out he's free. Naugh, he's been beat by Smithville twice so he's going to try someone else. So Chippewa is the only team that's trying to stay away from Smithville. Everyone else took the logical spots that were left when it was their turn to draw.

mr russell - i think its pretty obvious - the wcal teams have all been beaten twice by smithville, they are looking to try their luck with someone else. Stop taking everything so personal and enjoy the games - it looks to be a great district in wooster this year

I was thinking the same thing. If anything, we could make a big deal about so many teams skipping out on the BYE so they wouldn't have to (potentially) play Triway in the 2nd round. But it's not a big deal, soo... Haha!

Orrville/Northwestern or Orrville/Hillsdale could be some good matchups! Northwestern already played the Red Riders close earlier this season, and Hillsdale has proven they can play against some "bigs" by beating Smithville twice (Caldwell, Orr). But they have nobody to contain Bolyard, IMO, so it'll be interesting.

Pit, there's no coasting in tournament time :shy:, I agree with your district top 4 seeds making it but who do you have playing Orrville in the final Orrville/Northwestern ??? I think Smithville.

Any of the top 4 teams could win this and the next 3 if they played well and others faltered. Triway and Orrville may have it easier with lower seeds playing them in the early rounds. Hillsdale and Smithville slightly harder, but nothing impossible. No clear favorite in this district.
