I'm so excited that Mo'Nique is a strong possibility to win an Oscar.

Just because, I mean...not only was she FANTASTIC in the film, but the rest of her resume is so ridiculously bad. I mean, she was in Soul Plane. Soul. Plane.

Pretty confident Mo'Nique was in a VH1 reality show too...about reforming these slutty reality girls or something? She came a long way

My long post of my rankings, from the movies I saw.

Best Picture (10 movies is way too many for this category, it takes a lot of the luster off of being a Best Pic Nominee):
1) Avatar- I'm usually not a fan of these types of huge big budget movies, but I loved this movie, I was in awe the entire time while watching it. In my mind none of the other nominees were close to this one.
2) Inglorious Bastards
3) The Hurt Locker
4) A Serious Man- still trying to figure out the what and why of this movie, but enjoyed it. Like most Coen brothers movies, theres a lot going on here that won't be picked up on until multiple vieiwings.
5) Up in the Air- based on all the hype I was very underwhelmed after seeing this movie. Well made with good acting, but it just didn't resonate with me. Though in a way it reminds me of Lost in Translation, which I didn't like at first but is now in my Top 100 after rewatching it a few times.
6) Precious- The most miserable two hours I've spent in a theater in a long time. Over the top depressing, but did have some great cinematography, and actually had a point to make, and the movie has stuck with me. It's a movie that I'm glad I watched, I just never want to see it again.
7) Blind Side- Generic, paint by numbers sports movie, with a decent acting job by Sandra Bullock. Enjoyable way to waste a couple hours, but nothing of substance. Not a bad movie, just does not come close to being deserving of a Oscar Nomination.

Haven't seen Up, District 9 or An Education. I do think Sin Nombre & (500) Days of Summer deserved nominations, they would have been #'s 4 & 5 on my list. Possibly Paranormal Activity as well.

Best Actor- Either Clooney or Renner deserve this. Haven't seen Crazy Heart or A Single Man yet.
Best Actress- Ehhh. I've only seen Precious and Blind Side. I'll give Sandra Bullock the slight edge here...
Supporting Actor- I've only seen Bastards & Invictus, but this is all Waltz. No idea what Matt Damon did in that role that even merited a nomination, Waltz was great in Bastards.
Supporting Actress- I'll go with Anna Kendrick for now, but Maggie G will probably jump her once I see Crazy Heart.
Best Director- Same order as Best Picture, it's hard for me to seperate these two categories...

No offense to all the Avatar fans out there, but I'll be a little sick if it wins best picture. Best special effects/wow is this 3-d cool/dude I think I saw a blue nipple? Yes. But best picture it was not, IMO.

I agree gorocks I will a little dissappoint if Avatar wins best picture as well. Im also sad that 500 Days of Summer did not get a nomination that was a great movie.

And I agree with 2kool's picks or atleast those are the ones I hope win.

I thought it was incredibly boring. Felt like a documentary more than a movie. I'm shocked it got nominated.
With all due respect, I disagree completely ... the Hurt Locker may be the most intense "war movies" that I have ever seen. Incredible movie, I was locked in from start to finish, and I am usually not big on war flicks.

Incredibly weak year for movies. I've only seen 3 of the best picture nominees and didn't think any of them were more than average.

Great to see an animated film (Up) get a nod even though it won't win(Best Picture).

Avatar may win, but more than likely it will be the 'Star Wars' of 2009.

Well, most times if you win a golden globe, you're more likely to win the Oscar too.

I didn't see any of the movies except Up in the Air and I didn't like it. Boring!

In an interesting side note...Katheryn Bigelow, director of The Hurt Locker, would become the 1st female winner of Best Director should she win. She'd also beat out her ex-husband, James Cameron, who has said multiple times in the past month that her and The Hurt Locker deserve the awards more than Avatar.

I happen to agree with Cameron. I'd love to see The Hurt Locker clean up and Streep win another Oscar finally. She already has 2 but she's probably the best actress ever. She deserves it.

But I'd bet on Avatar winning everything and Sandra Bullock as best actress.

I agree on Bullock, and she should win as she has labored endlessly and been a top actress in the romantic comedy genre which never gets rewarded. Many actors get rewarded for a single performance and then fade into the night. Sometimes the Academy rewards for an excellent performance outside of their usual genre, and this may be the case here. Bullock has made a lot of studios a lot of money over the years.

While I was very happy when "The Hurt Locker" won for best picture, I finally got around to seeing "Inglorious Bastards" ... what a tremendous film! Very intriguing story told in vintage Tarrentino fashion, mixed with memorable performances. Highly recommend it.
