This is a surprise. May miss Frizell more than I thought they would. Anybody watch this game and can fill us in on strategies and how the game went.

this is not that surprising. Frizell was their only experienced guard and his shooting really helped open up the inside for orr and caldwell. Hillsdale has quality guards and the size to play with the smithies inside. Smithville is going to have a very good season and will not lose a lot of games, they are just more beatable right now. They will also be very dangerous come tourney time with Frizell back. Early on, it looks like what many of us were expecting in the WCL - Smithville, Hillsdale, Dalton, and Northwestern at the top, with Rittman and Norwayne right there talentwise. But its eary, so we'll see how things shake out.

Hillsdale finally has a coach that can do something with the talent they've had, IMO. Watch out for them. This game may not have been a fluke.

I really don't think that game last night was a surprise to any area follower. When Smithville takes twenty more field goal attempts and still loses it just isn't their night. Hillsdale is a good team, without Frizell, Smithville really falls off offensively. The basketball sense just isn't there. Untimely shots just aren't going to cut it against bad teams. Bates needs to stop playing like a freshman, and attack the bucket more, five a game isn't enough now. Please Smithville, make your layups, or Orrville will kill you Saturday.

Some big games this weekend. I can't wait to see the Dalton/NW matchup.

I agree - has the makings of a great matchup friday in west salem. I think NW's height may make it tough for the bulldogs to get them, especially at the huskie palace. Dalton has been playing lots of bodies and have two wins against two solid teams. I would like to see a little more trapping from this team with their depth and speed.

wacky weekend in WCL country. Glad to see my b ulldogs bounce back with a win after a loss to Northwestern on Friday. Friday was one ugly game - both teams over 20 turovers and both shot poorly. The difference in that game was free throws - huskies made them and Dalton didn't. Didn't see the game at Fairless - any details here?

Hillsdale goes 0 for 2 after knocking down smithville last week. Smithville's biggest weakness is showing right now - lack of guard depth/experience. A healthy Frizell will get them right back on top.

Smithville only had eleven turnovers last night against Orrville! The guards played very well, and Bates has played better and better every game, as well as David Rehm. Make some shots boys! If they play like they did against Orrville last night, the county title isn't leaving Smithville yet.

I don't think anyone is doubting that. No one can match their size. They still win the WCL.

They did? I know they're inexperienced an dthey will get better, but they're gonna have to knock down a few shots. Story said 4-25 shooting and 0-15 on three balls. I see Orrville and Triway as teams to beat in the district. Caldwell was outstanding and Orr looked pretty good.

another good matchup coming tomorrow as a talented Hillsdale team visits a dangerous dalton squad. Hillsdale will have the bulldogs way outsized as they don't really have anyone over 6'1 but are a fast team. Dalton need to improve on their foul shooting to win these close games as the have been shooting very poorly. The Paullin - Lint matchup should be a good one out front. Looks like it will take some time to sort out the 5-plus team cluster that the WCL looks to be.

bulldogs looked very good in this game. Their pressure defense created lots of turnovers and they sliced and diced the falcons on offense and got a lot of layups. Hillsdale is a very poor passing team. Good win for Dalton

I am out of town from Jan 2 - Jan 11. So entering scores and keeping up-to-date will have to wait until I get back home. To help me out, PLEASE can someone send me a nightly email with a list of all WCAL scores (or scores from WCAL teams)? I would greatly appreciate getting back and having emails with scores in them rather than having to search for all the scores like I normally do on game night. Thanks!!

looking forward to seeing if the bulldogs can hang with the smithies friday. If the team that plays chippewa shows up, the bulldogs will get rolled. If the team that played hillsdale is there, it will be interesting. Dalton has no size at all and will have some very tough matchups. They need to shoot well and get after it defensively to have a chance.

I think unless the Smithies slip up tomorrow at home against an underrated Chippewa team (weather permitting), Saturday's winner will be the county champions this season, whether it is Dalton or the Green Machine.

What does Dalton have to face against Norwayne tonight (weather permitting)? Will they tire us out making Saturday a little harder?
