They are a bit away from UCLA's 88, but this team just wins!! I believe they have won by over 10 for a year and a half?

During their 72-game winning streak, the team has won by an average margin of victory of 31 PPG. Think about that...

I'm a hater of women's basketball, but that's astounding.

UCLA's run in the '60s and '70s, despite the probability of Wooden being involved in cheating practices, is the most impressive college basketball run we'll ever see. No matter what this UConn team ends up doing. Ten national championships and a stretch of 88 straight wins in men's college basketball in a matter of 11 years is just insane, and will never be duplicated.

But, as Az said, what the Huskies have been able to do is astonishing, and something that needs to be commended.

Tough one tonight, Az.

I'm not going to compare them to UCLA because the sport is totally different. Women's basketball, today, still isn't to the level men's basketball was in the 60's and 70's. There is way too much of a disparity between the top 25-50 programs and the rest of the country. It's nothing like the men's game. With that said, Connecticut (and Tennessee), are simply on another level.

Since 1995 (15 seasons), Conecticut has won 6 national titles. Tennessee has won 5 national titles in the same time frame. In 5 of those Connecticut titles, they defeated Tennessee in the championship game 4 times and once in the national semi-finals. In one of Tennessee's title years, they knocked out Connecticut in the national semi-finals. In one other year, the teams both made the Final Four but Tennessee reached the title game (and eventually won it) while Connecticut was defeated in the national semi-finals. In this same time span (15 seasons), the two schools have combined for 20 Final Fours.

It's safe to say that the 2 greatest dynasties in the sport have occurred during the same time. That makes what each coach has done in this time period even more remarkable. This win streak is just another chapter to the novel.

Has UConn really won 72 in a row? I thought it was 59 after beating Rutgers.

Either way, it's very impressive.

You are correct, 72 of the last 73 I believe. That would take their winning margin of those games down to about 30.9 :)

What's also crazy is the competition that they play on a regular basis.

Just this season, they have the following wins:

at #13 Texas
#2 Stanford
at #11 FSU
#7 UNC
#3 Notre Dame
at #7 Duke

That's just ridiculous. And they've won those marquee games by an average of 25.7 PPG.

My buddy brought this up the other day...

For example, say you take this UConn women's team, and play them against say Otterbein College's men's team. A DIII school.

Who wins?

Otterbein isn't that good for that matter.

Any men's college team would beat UConn. Pretty much any men's college team on any level IMO.

Over a seven-year stretch, the UCLA men went 206-4. Enough said.

1966-67 through 1972-73. They won the championship all seven years.

I'd say UConn would have a pretty good shot. Again, I don't understand why so many people think women's basketball is so inferior to men's.

The ladies would never get a clean shot off against a men's college team.

Misogymy lives on this thread. I think UConn's woman would beat Otterbien. Just my opinion. I doubt that they would beat an Ivy League team though.

Which is why they are the most dominate ever. I could see this happening in women's basketball several more times. There's no parity at all.
