Akron escapes WMU in the first semifinal, 66-64.

Kool scored 39 for WMU in the losing effort.

Medlock scored 42 yesterday (2nd most ever in a MAC tourney game) for EMU only to lose to Akron, and Kool's 39 was the 3rd most ever for a tourney game, only to lose to Akron as well.

A brutal finish to a brutal MAC Season. I would go out on a limb and predict a short tournament run for whoever the MAC Rep is. Of course, I have seen strange things happen and teams like OU or Akron get hot and win a game or two and actually begin to think they can win more, but then reality hits and the normal result occurs.

Obviously the MAC school will most likely be one and done, as the MAC is definitely hurting this year. Akron will be a 13 or 14 seed if they win, Ohio probably a 14 or 15.

This game has been one of the better basketball displays they have put on for quite a while, though. Solid championship battle... lead has never been greater than 5.

Ohio had the players (obviously), but it just wasn't all there most of the year.

This is a textbook example of getting your shit together at precisely the right time.

Now, with our stellar 7-9 conference record, could Ohio get a 15 seed and get a matchup with a 2 seeded Ohio State?
It wouldn't be pretty, but the interest level from MAC fans would be good.

Maybe it wouldn't be pretty, but it would generate A LOT of interest IMO. And I wouldn't count them out--IMO, I think every team is an upset possibility in any round this year. I just don't see any truely dominant teams.

If it happened it would be fun, I'm just worried that the Big Ten Tournament is going to serve as a wake-up call for OSU for a tournament run.

Also, Ohio may get a 14, but definitely nothing higher.

Either way, they're rollin' right now and Bassett can play with anybody--they're not to be overlooked by any of the weak top seeds. And IMO, none of them are that strong. I cant' wait for the tournament to start, I think it's going to be a GREAT one. The seperation that the top seeds have is far less than it is in most years IMO.

Bassett is a beast... well, he did start at Indiana so obviously he has the talent, he just had trouble keeping his nose clean. He's luckily seemed to get his shit in gear for the most part at Ohio.

Lunardi has us as a 14 playing Villanova... and has it being played in Providence so that Tim O'Shea can come over from Bryant to realize how much he fucked up by leaving (He's a New England guy and hated SE Ohio)... hahaha
