The Beatles would not have been the same without George and Ringo. They never get the credit or recognition they truly deserve. John, Paul and George wanted Ringo, because he was the best drummer around at the time.
Also, Lennon wrote Do you want to know a secret. Harrison just sang it.

Apocalyptica. They are freaking amazing. Their entire metallica cover cd is unbelievable its pretty sweet how they can cover the songs and even do the words. (For those of you who don't know, Apocalyptica is a hard rock band that plays stringed orchestra instruments and has a very unique sound)

I'd also feel compelled to mention, for extreme metalheads, Pungent Stench. Lyrically, they go for low-brow stuff that is pretty disgusting. From disturbingly dark humor to pure torture stuff. But the vocals are nearly indecipherable for the most part because they're death metal, so who cares!?
They have a number of really good songs that show a sort of demented genius. Viva La Muerte is a bizarre combination of classic rock, grunge and death. I'm A Family Man has the cure for any fever...MORE COWBELL! Madcatmachopsychoromantik is a medley of four songs by a guy who might be Austria's version of Frank Zappa...and if you watch the live Mad Cat Sally video (one of the four songs....I think youtube calls it "mat cat sally", though) he seems to be nearly passed out drunk while slurring out his lines....and looking like a hobo, too.

Main dude behind Hypocrisy, which is one of the greatest Euro-death groups. Also's the main dude behind Pain, which (at least in Sweden) is a hugely popular industrial-rock group. Has been in other groups and guested on many albums AND is a very prolific producer in the Scandinavian region.
I have much respect for all he's done for metal music.
-Word dude....however, you can't talk about Peter and not mention the fact that he growled for one album for one of the greatest retro death metal bands ever....Bloodbath!!!! Peter was a friggin' man on "nightmares made flesh"!

That's right, Bloodbath was kickass! The combination of Tagtgren and Dan Swano in one group meant that it'd be the ultimate in death. Swano's solo album Moontower is pretty amazing, as is a lot of his Edge of Sanity work, including the 30-minute song/album, Crimson.

It's obviously veteran punk band Bad Religion. Vocalist Greg Graffin is n Ivy League grad, one of the top evolutionary biologists in the world, author, and rocker. Guistarist Brett Gurewitz is the founder of uber successful alternative rock/alternative hiphop/alt electro record label Epitaph. The band is in it's 30th yr together. The lyrics they wrote at the age of 15 are more insightful and original than anything any other band has done at any age (my opinion, of course).
A close second: Leftover Crack. Very talented musicians who cover genre's from punk to ska to death metal on a single album.
