The old Delphi/General Motors auto parts plant at West Broad Street and Georgesvillle Road - a few blocks away from the I-270/West Broad Street intersection.

Great decision. No reason for the city to put all their eggs in 1 basket in having only 1 entertainment district

I think that is a good choice. You can always draw stores back to Westland but nothing was ever going to go back into the delphi plant. Also maybe the Candy Store will get an upgrade.

Probably just about two years until they deal the first hand of blackjack.

Ten minutes away? The impact is probably nil. It will certainly be a positive for the immediate surrounding area, which consists of mostly vacant strip centers and big-box hulks.

If you're in the South-Western school district, your property value is likely already damaged beyond hope of any immediate recovery. :(

It may be done by then but it always takes a while after that to bust out the table games.

I disagree. Having everything all together is what I would prefer. Columbus is already too spread out as it is. This is another "district".

If you go to a city like Indianapolis where all entertainment is together, it makes for a better atmosphere and attracts more of the youger crowd.

Didn't see this thread before I posted another. But within 6 mos locals will not travel out to the westside just to sit in a seedy casino filled with westsider hilljacks. People with discretionary income who buy Blue Jacket and Clipper tickets, go to clubs & restaurants and enjoy entertainment will avoid this place like the plague. It will become a Sr. Citizen Slots Casino like you see on reservations and Atlantic City. Huge blunder by the Citry iMO.

Two words: Construction Traffic. That's why it's a bummer. Although there are two other routes I can take to get the BW3's on Georgesville, West Broad is just the quickest.

Agree. I love downtown Indianapolis, everything you want is within' a viable distance. The casino would've drawn a much better crowd in the Arena district. Huge screw up, imo.

I agree with this.

I actually grew up on the Westside and know the area really well, and remember when Westland Mall was "The Mall" in Columbus.

I live in Dublin now and it's a little depressing to head back over to the Westside to see all the vacant buildings and to see the home values and crime.

I'm a little torn on this. I want it on the Westside because it can only help the ecomony, but in the big picture of Columbus, I think it's a horrible idea.

There isn't going to be a Casino just smacked onto the Delphi site then nothing else done.

Hell, Wexner has already bought up a ton of old retail space in that area and to think that developers are not salivating over the thoughts of a new development and growth area in Columbus would be naive. This is a good move because it spreads the rehabilitation efforts even moreso around the city. Bars, hotels, apartments, condos, restaurants, shops, etc will all be built around the new casino. I swung by the office last night and the major real estate company that is on the first floor was still here at 8pm last night working on rough drafts for their own development plans in that area. They alone were talking 150 apartments and 200 condos.

What Real Estate company are you referring to?

I can see some development in that area, as real estate is basically being given away.

And I've heard for several years that Wexner has invested in the area, but I just don't understand it.

I'm just a little skeptical of the whole idea of it making a huge impact and upgrading the West Side. Sure the Casino will generate revenue, but that doesn't mean people want to live next door to it.

And as someone previously said, the Delphi site is so enormous there is plenty of room for further developement on the site.

It will be very interesting.

And a question, doesn't it have to be put on the ballot and get approved by voters? Is it just Columbus voters or state wide? Are there any doubts that it won't pass?

On a side note, I don't know if Wexner is the guy to develope the area. He did good things for Easton, but from what I hear it's underperforming badly.

Yeah, that's always the answer. Build housing, because there are not enough already sitting vacant. Please tell me that you don't advise others on investments?

The large commercial is doing well at Easton, the apartments were too high priced to begin with and the small office space is :s at best. The mall is full though, so that is a good sign and that is the kind of development you want near the new Casino.

I can't say which company because they have not put in bids on anything yet. It's one of the older development companies, not Dominion or Schottenstein.

the casino issue was already on the ballot in november and it passed statewide....
