It would have been a long field goal any way, but that 5 yard penalty totally changed the calculus of that final play for the Vikings.

Uhhh, a 19-yr vet that just happened to be hopping on every drop-back(due to an obvious sprained ankle), to run and gain a few yards? Yeah, right. Gimmee a fucking break.

If you miss the 55 yd FG its OT also. So risking a turnover to get a 70% better chance to win it with a kick is probably somewhat better odds than trying the 55 yd FG.tuskytuffguy wrote: Better to rely on that, than to risk a turnover. Exactly!! However, the Vikings had 5 turnovers. No one to blame but themselves!! That is the comment I made on another thread here at 2:03 this afternoon.
I am the other way around. My brain says Saints, and heart says Favre. I just know that Favre is due for that Favre like game where he throws 3 or 4 interceptions and makes terrible decisions. The 2007 NFC championship game is a perfect example. He played well for 18 straight games, and threw one retarded INT in overtime that ruined everything. I just don't see how he gets through without that moment happening, and it hasn't happened yet which means it is way over due.
Watching Favre is like watching Mickelson at the U.S Open. He gets so close, but he just can't help himself but to screw it up. Lucky for him he won his Super Bowl before the demons really crept in.

A bad call is a bad call no matter what. It shouldn't not be called just because the Vikings fumbled it a bunch. Should be looked at objectively no matter what.september63 wrote:Exactly!! If the Vikings were winning by 30 I'd still be bitching about it because they were the wrong calls. Doesn't matter what else is going on, you don't all the sudden overlook the rules because a team made mistakes earlier in the game.
I'll also say it again, a different team in a different game gets huge fines for the hits on Favre. Shouldn't be that way.

Favre made some mistakes but he isn't the one who screwed it up. Peterson, Harvin, and Berrian all fumbled the ball also.

Vikings gave the game away. They were CLEARLY the better team "at" New Orleans home field. But, stats dont win games, except for t.o.'s in NO's favor. I look for NO to get creamed in two weeks.

To be honest the Saints made some stupid mistakes also(Penalties) and Reggie Bush punt fumble. Let's not act like the Saints D did not force those turnovers(excluding the hand off exchange from Peterson/Farve. That has been the Saints defense all year. They force turnovers and they scored from turnovers. Turnovers are not always the Offenses fault, sometimes the D actually makes plays happen too.cats gone wild wrote: Vikings gave the game away. I would have called the same type of play....after the 5 yard penalty. On replay, Favre could have easily run for 8-10 yards and they still had their last time out left.Correction, it would have been a 55 yd FG attempt due to the 12 men in the huddle penalty on the previous line-up for the play.

Only mistake Favre made was comin to play for a group of losers like the vikings. I hope they all go die, except for Favre and Visanthe. I hope they win Super Bowls together somewhere.

I think Farve made the right decision, just a bit late, about as late as a 40 yrs olds' reflexes are compared to when he was 27! He used to get away with going against conventional wisdom all the time. I don't think he could have come close to getting 8-10 yards, and he may have been knocked out of the superbowl if they would have won!
