I have heard this book is really really good. My gf is getting it for me for my birthday in just a few weeks, so I will have my own review then, but I have heard nothing but good things.
The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible - AJ Jacobs
I guess it starts out hilarious then slowly becomes very humbling. Apparently a few of my atheist friends have read it, and while they have not converted or anything of that nature, they have become humbled by the bible's teachings.

If you have the time, "IT" by Stephen King. Just finished it up over Christmas. Easily one of the best works of fiction that I have ever read. 1100 pages never went by so fast.

Anything by Dan Brown. Just don't read it before going to bed, because you won't be going to bed, and you can take that to the bank.

Cormac Mccarthy rights some awesome stuff. I'd suggest either The Road or Blood Meridian.
Chuck Palahniuk writes some good books too. Fight Club was great.

thanks for the suggestions. at this point, i can't find politics entertaining at all.....I'm boycotting them for a while. WAY TOO MUCH BULLSHIT the past 2 years I just can't deal with it anymore.
A few other people I know suggested David Sedaris, so I'll probably start with that.
