I disagree. 24 hr news stations are just information. It provides people with varying schedules a chance to catch information when they can. Too much information is never a bad thing. Just trust people with the freedom to evaluate that information and come to their own conclusions concerning it.

As for killing this country you could not be more wrong. The free press running 24 hrs is killing this country? That is the attitude that allows government intervention and suppression of the free press. In my opinion what is killing this country is our government's decades of unbridled spending.

Not allowing detailed segments that provide all the nuts and bolts of policy but instead serve only political talking points and shouting matches is killing us.

Rarely, and I mean rarely does anything of real substance come out of the networks.

Instead it is like a pissing contest and about who can get the better ratings. That is what is killing the country. There is no in-depth thought or analysis. Only 2 minute soundbites.

If it was just news, I might agree. They are opinion shows though, not news shows. The BBC is a news show, the stuff on U.S news networks isn't. And, yes, I think the fact that the country gets their political opinions from these "news" shows is killing this country. No one thinks for themselves anymore. Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc. do all the thinking now.

No commentary. Only detailed policy options and the various nuts and bolts of those policies. Serious in-depth discussions about the merits of different options in comparison to other options.

Let's take for example Iran. How about a half hour segment on trying to understand why Iran is seeking the option to possibly build a bomb instead of making short 2 minute arguments about how Iran is bad and needs to be bombed.

Or how about healthcare. How about an hour of doctors, heathcare professionals and insurance people detailing the merits of the various options proposed in a civilian detailed orientated setting.

Look I hate the argueing back and forth as well. I like intelligent discussion. But are you willing to set up some type of authoritarian body to regulate it, that is the only way to stop it. The constitution prohibits the regulation of political opinions. So we live with it.

Eh...I suggest watching Network...it'd be one thing if they were doing hardcore news reporting like oddly enough PBS does with shoes like "Frontline" (Said that our Public/Government/Socialist News Channel really is the best one)....but these networks are trying to get ratings and raise the value of their shareholders stock. It's all that matters following the Friedman theory of the firm still ingrained within business management in this country.

FWIW: I read the AP on my blackberry everyday all the time...Granted...I will never be confused with Writerbuckeye...but most people outside of the Conservative Circle Jerk Haven of the Huddle, would consider me down the middle...and I just don't really think the AP is slanted to the left or the right...the stories are just reported to me.

I also grew up watching Peter Jennings and, even if he was a liberal in his personal life...my parents being small business owning conservatives never seemed to complain about him being a liberal etc.

I'm not denying liberal media bias...but I just don't think it'll affect you if you just listen to the news, hear what's reported or read it in the AP and then think about it yourself.

The Bias to me is that the news just keeps getting dumber and sadder and more and more fluff because of ratings...just like Paddy Chayefsky told us it would.

Sean Hannity and Keith Olbermann make people dumber and dumb down discourse. Glenn Beck is dumb and luckily won a radio dj contest and is a failed comedian who now gives his opinion on political ideology.

There was a time in America when a leading liberal voice in America was the great Bertrand Russel...or when conservatives could learn about the "freedom to choose" from Milton Friedman. That world is gone because a boring drab like say, Peter Singer, wouldn't get MSNBC the ratings (I know, what ratings?) that Rachel Maddow would.

As long as their are smart, rational people; debt, wars and social issues, etc. can be solved, thought out and fixed.
