I thought both those matches lived up to the hype! There was a lot of very good wrestling today.

The best match of the night was Fortune/Burge mat. Burge controled the match but lost in the last seconds. GREAT match for one that no body thought would be. Great job bears, heck of a team.

Wow that sounds like a good one and closer than people thought. Looks like Doylestown not being there effected the intensity of some weight classes a little. Still to bad but we will all see them next week.

How bad did Grier beat Harter? Was it even really much of a match?

Not much of a match, it was like 13-3. Grier looked good and so did Stanly

Were there any wrestlers that made it in the top four placers at WCAL that were unexpected or that may have an impact at sectionals?

Brenden Stanley (Waynedale). MD''d Heldenbrand (Hillsdale) in semi and also for championship. Kids a freshman and seems to be adjusting to the big time pretty quick! Bret Fortune (Northwestern) and Dillon Burge at 119 quite a battle. I'd say Burge's ready to go. Tough looking kid!

Britton came out on fire but got gassed, Grier looked better than i expected, Burge/Fortune battled, both look solid, Moore looked good, Widder wresltled well, Petersheim usual JYD, Stanley impressive, Lewis wrestled well, Topp....eh..was Topp, Siegel I expected to do well, Scheafer looked posed for a run, Mullins wrestled with nice fire, Richards looked as good as expected...No real surprises. 112 and 119 and 189 were the only 3 weights that i thought could of went either way going in. Everything else was pretty much spot on.

Have to say I was a bit surprised at the score of the 112 and 189 matches...thought they would be more like the 119 match. We'll get back in the room and have a good week of practice...thats what it all is up to this point. NOW is when it counts..get poised for the tourney run!!!!

Two matches @ 112 & 189 with the match not being close in the third & the spirits of the opponent down. I can't see how that lives up to any hype. Tyler has years of being beat by Dustin to get over. When he does HE CAN BEAT HIM! Jon was puzzling to me. Clearly quicker, but his performance on the bottom was shocking. Stalling? What?

I agree the 119 was the best match.

I went to Ohio Youth state yesterday....went home early :-( however wanted to mention a match I saw.

Wayndale had a kid I think Strausbaugh (sp?) @ 102 wrestling in the quarters. I caught the end of the match. Where their kid was losing 4-3. He gets a TD to go up 5-4 then takes what was clearly his 2nd injury t/o. The scoreboards post the time as I watched the kid sprint for the mat to say he was ready as time expires. At this point I don't know why he's injured. 7 seconds left & the ref sets the bottom man, while he does that the Waynedale kid throws up on Coach Fowler's feet and proceeds to ride out his opponent for the win. For a kid this age, or any age, what an inspiring show of guts & determination. I saw the ref of the match later in the day & asked it he noticed the Waynedale kid sneak off to throw up while he was setting the bottom man. He said no & if he had he said as long as he was ready when he went to him & that he didn't leave the mat that it is ok. Clearly I thought this was all pretty cool! I don't know how he finished. I know Hall @ 73 from Doylestown had to place along with this kid.

Unfortunately, Strasebaugh came up a match short of placing(i think). Congrats to Jack Staggs and Reid Stanley both getting 3rd(i think) so this may also be Waynedales highest elementary State placers EVER!!!! Congrats boys.

I hope so!! I'm hoping Tanner ends up at 119 or there could be trouble here. Harter not qualifying for districts?? There's some hungry kids coming up from Tuslaw etc. and no room for backing off. Harter has the stuff to take Grier out but he has to bring it. So far he's left it at home I'm afraid. Oh we see it for an instance when he ripped off a switch this time around with some intensity or last year when he gave Grier flying lessons on a throw. County is over. The hype is over. Time to leave the demons of doubt or whatever behind. Its time to wake up, win for yourselves, win for the team. It's sectional time!

Jon's been a little under the weather since the Wooster dual with Hughes, as the score hinted. Sorry we couldn't live up to expectations for everyone but we did ok for a little while.

So Jaret Lester "CHAMPION"? This beats all! Raising the bar are we? Sounds like Reid should've been there.

Sorry to stir the pot here the wrong way! Or maybe it's the right way. Thanks bootsin for your clarification. To me it is amazing the opportunity there is for kids to wrestle and improve upon that wrestling! Looking forward to Jaret's continued success. Be wary of the burn out. Zeb went from two years as grade school state runner-up, jr. high state 5th, jr. state 8th, HS 9 good record, HS 10 (fingers crossed, lol).

Tuslaw finishes the season yesterday winning the Massillon Invite 2 days after taking 2nd at Pac behind CVCA but beating Manchester by 60 points. Tuslaw has 7 champs at Massillon. Look forward to a high spirited sectional at Nothwestern. I hope all the Tuslaw seniors have a great month and end there wrestling on the highest note possible. Twins went 16-0 for the weekend I hope that carries over to sectional. . 140 seems to be a good call for Zane. The team Race should be won by Waynedale but Line ups have shifted alot since early season and some dual teams are not as dominate in tournaments. Its great to see Doyalstown will wrestle this weekend. I hope everyone is 100 percent this weekend and the kids enjoy the tournament.
