I have a feeling that Heckert will be scouting and watching tape, then telling Holmgren which guys at which positions he likes, which then Holmgren will take a look at...

I have a strong feeling that Holmgren, Heckert, and Mangini will all work together on the guys they pick up.. Holmgren wouldn't jockey Mangini around and not let him have ANY say on the type of players he gets. Mangini may not have much say in the overall scheme, but they'll definitely listen to him.

Not really, either way it's not my money and Lerner has a train load of cash, so I'm sure he doesn't mind...

If he brings a winner to Cleveland, he'll more than make up for that cash..

You're paying for someone who has a vision and a plan -- and who will be in control of putting that plan together to make the franchise a success, not just for the short term but for years to come.

If Holmgren is successful in doing this, it's money well spent. And the only way to see if it's money well spent is to try it.

Holmgren has had a key role in rebuilding two franchises (Green Bay and Seattle), so it's not like there isn't a track record that shows he can do the job.

And at 62, he's probably not going to be around much longer than the length of his contract before he retires. So, he builds the organization with people who can step in and keep it running after he decides to call it a career.

I hope this plan can turn the franchise into a consistent winner.

Heckert is a great talent evaluator, and advisor. He just wanted to get out of that crappy role he was at with Philly. He wasn't even really a GM, he was more of an assistant to Reid who handled most of the financial decisions.

Now he's "set free" for a lack of a better term.

Looks like we can have him Monday unless the Eagles pull off an absolute miracle in the second half.

As an aside to the actual topic...this just tells me that pro sports is filled with more gossip and rumors than a tabloid magazine. I watch ESPN, read blogs, etc. and I can't count the number of things they said would or wouldn't happen and then the opposite is true. Holmgren will never come to Cleveland, Mangini is gone for sure, Heckert will never go to Cleveland because he hates Mangini...it gets really old really fast.

Don't confuse sports "reporting" with real world reporting. It's a totally different animal -- well, it used to be.

Anymore, "real" reporting has become a lot like sports "reporting" in both quality, content and accuracy.
