Include their 2017 salary for what is theoretically available to spend on them (not my money or budget thou :) )

Santana $12M
Bruce $13M (prorated)
Shaw $4.6M

+$16M = $45M of yearly free money from last years budget.

Thought Calloway did a good job with the pitching staff. Good luck to him with the Mets.

Guys, Callaway did a GREAT job. This one hurts, but predictable. Good for him.

I expected him to leave, and he will surely be missed. Made this staff amazing.

Damn, that sucks. Hope he does well, glad it's not an AL team.

Well that’s always the mark of a good team… Your coaches are in demand. Be sorry to see Mickey ago, but it’s just a fact of sports .

Sucks to lose Calloway but, from what I've heard, the "cream of the crop" of their potential managers on this staff is Mike Sarbaugh. Have heard great things about him.

Indians name Carl Willis as pitching coach. He did a pretty good job in his first stint as Indians pitching coach.

And with Seattle/Boston. Got Felix and Porcello CYA.

^^^ Yeah...not surprised on picking up Tomlin's option...the cowboy is an inexpensive veteran who knows how to pitch even if his stuff ain't the greatest.

Picking up Brantley's option is a different story, he is an expensive option given the amount of time he's been on the field the past two years. He just can't seem to keep himself healthy even with Tito babying him when he is active. I'm surprised in that the Tribe has not historically been a team that keeps dead wood on for sentimental reasons.

I would have thought they would have cut bait with Brantley and used the money to go hard after Bruce and/or Santana.
Keeping Brantley seems to signal that at least one if not both of those guys will be gone.

I don't have a problem with picking up the option on Brantley at least the Indians know how to correctly submit paperwork before a deadline.

Tribe extends qualifying offer to Santana ($17.4 mil)/1 year. Declines to pick up option on Boone Logan.

Tribe declines option on Logan. Tribe does not make qualifying offer on Bryan Shaw. Tribe make $17.4 million qualifying offer to Santana and he has 10 days to accept. With the QO the Indians get a draft pick if Santana signs elsewhere.

Bryan Shaw doesn't come close to being worth $17.4 million and hence this comes as no surprise.
This year's QO amount is set by the average of the top 125 players in the game.
For those wondering, qualifying offers can only be made to first time free agents, and those who have NOT been traded in the middle of the year.....hence no offer can be made to Jay Bruce, and no compensation if he leaves as a free agent.

Yes, and the Tribe are still interested in Shaw but not at that price.

Read today that teams who have reached out to Scott Boras about JD Martinez have come away with the impression that he is going to be looking for a total deal in the 200M range.

My guess is we are out. Would love him. He always raked at Progressive.

Whatever we ended up paying him was totally worth it. He delivered.

Agreed, I don’t blame him for looking for that much.
