Anecdotes don't change rules. And by pure definition... yes it was talent based. A better player is more likely to field a ball. Talent wins. are there exceptions (anomalies)? yes.. but talent wins.BR1986FB;1871353 wrote:So it was "talent based" when some dumbass special teamer couldn't fall on an onside kick against the Patriots a couple of years ago that would've sealed a victory?

This is not even close to being true. There are plenty of teams that win games against teams with far superior talent. Talent helps, but it comes down to execution and focus. Read the link I posted. There are more than a handful of games the Browns should have closed out and it wasn't because of "talent."kizer permanente;1871350 wrote:What you're not getting is "ability to close out games" is all talent based. That's what makes it cliche and gimmicky. Much like "hes a winner".. no he has skills required to make wins possible. You don't just learn these things. When you're consistently the worse team in the league, you're going to have a tough time "closing out games". As your talent gets better, you magically "learn" how to do it. It's not science. it's being better at you job. The Browns, as a whole, are better at their jobs this year. They'll probably be better at their jobs even more so next year as you acquire talent. When you're the worst in the league at drafting players..or just player evaluation as a whole.. you're gonna have a bad time.

Since I clearly can't convince you that being better than your opponent is the secret to winning, please explain to me how teams "learn to close out games".

You bolded "What you're not getting is "ability to close out games" is all talent based" and responded with "this is not even close to being true ". So, now, I want you to tell me how teams learn to close out games that has nothing to do with talent.

I never said being better is not the key to winning. That's why I made fun of your dumbass when you thought the browns had 11 winnable games on the schedule. If we use your logic then the most talented team wins the SB every year, which is far from the truth.kizer permanente;1871368 wrote:You, literally, are disputing this.
Literally every fucking football coach talks about "closing out halfs/games," but please tell us why you know more than all of the NFL coaches.

I already said it's execution and focus, especially in the NFL when everyone is talented.kizer permanente;1871371 wrote:You bolded "What you're not getting is "ability to close out games" is all talent based" and responded with "this is not even close to being true ". -Michigan lost two years ago to MSU because their punter couldn't hold onto the snap. Does that mean MSU was more talented or because Michigan choked when it came down to closing out the game?

I played thru high school yes. My coach also said dumb shit like it's its not the size of the dog in the fight when you were getting your shit handed to you by a bigger guy. Coaches say dumb shit to players too. That fact you bring his up as a point is blowing my mind.like_that;1871375 wrote:My football coach said it all the time. Except Browns coaches. The 1st commandment, "Thos shall always give up pts before half. "like_that;1871372 wrote:I never said being better is not the key to winning. And it's all talking points for " you gotta be better then the guy you're playing against ". It all comes down to talent. You don't execute without talent. You sure as hell don't do it very often against someone better than youlike_that;1871377 wrote:Also, it is not just to reporters. You hear that shit all the time when they are mic'd up.

And this tangent is taking focus off the comment BR made, and you supported, that you have to learn how to close out games. Which is made up nonsense

So everything coaches say are talking points and nothing else matters except for talent? That's how fucking dumb your argument sounds right now. Coaches practice the 2 min drill all of the time, but yeah coaches talking about closing out games is the same thing as them throwing out cliches such as "it's the size of the dog."kizer permanente;1871380 wrote:And it's all talking points for " you gotta be better then the guy you're playing against ". It's absolutely not made up nonsense. Teams drill this in practice every day. How dense can you be?kizer permanente;1871381 wrote:And this tangent is taking focus off the comment BR made, and you supported, that you have to learn how to close out games. Which is made up nonsense
