last nite's winner in ASA crate late model, Austin Kirkpatrick crashed across the finish line at New Smyrna. Just like Dale Sr. and Terry Labonte at Bristol. Looks like another wash out tonite, gettin a nice steady rain the past 3 hours.

Check out Nick Diano. He is from Canton area and was going to run Super lates at New Smyrna this year. Last year he won the points championship at New Smyrna in the Modified class.

Nick Diano ? The name rings a bell, but I do not see it on any lists at NSS.
Talk about crazy...Austin was DQ'd because of no rev limiter chip. It was laying on the floor pan, obviously knocked out of the ignition box by the inside frontstretch wall. Still a cool pic. I told him it reminded me of Terry Labonte at Bristol. He got right on the net and found that finish to watch, he got a kick out of that.

from New Smyrna at 8:30 tonite. click ' listen live ' at the top right side of the page. Nascar Tour Modifieds 50 lapper.

more news...Nascar told everyone today the rule might change for the green white checkered finish. The old saying goes "Nascar is headquartered in Daytona, so the rules can be rewritten in the sand with the change of tides."

Darkon, Nick Diano must have arrived yesterday. He is in a super late model # 36x. Ran 15th place.

Its 39 degrees now. Trucks are practicing, then Nationwide Danica series , then the Gatorade Duels. Forecast high of 50, 10-15mph wind.

Tim Tebow and Maurice Jones-Drew are today's Grand Marshalls.

only 4 spots are up for grabs in the duels...There are two available starting spots up for grabs in each of the two Duels.
Whichever two drivers of the 15 -- not already locked into the race -- that finish highest in each race are guaranteed a spot in the 500.
Seven drivers will be racing for two spots in the first Duel and eight for two in the second Duel, meaning 11 teams will pack up and head home tonight.

Thanks for the update. Nick is my cousin. His family on both sides have been involved in racing for a long time. He has been racing nationals since the age of 5. He is now 20. Started in quarter midgets and this is his first year in Super Lates. I'm sure he has a learning curve to go through. Kid has talent and money to back him. He has been getting some help from David Streme who they bought the cars from. Kyle Busch even hot lapped with him one day at Sandusky trying to help him set up his new cars.

thanks Darkon

GoChiefs, Eli Gold said the 2 car looked as strong as any today.
Dale Jr. was on the radio show at the mall. It was very cool, he closes the week of shows as the last guest every year now. His dad always did the mall radio show and Jr. was on with him and carries on the tradition. The host said Martin had guaranteed the media that Jr will break out of the slump. Jr had great things to say about Mark racing him in the Busch series AC Delco and Winn Dixie cars. Jr said Mark helps everybody, Kenseth, Logano, Carmichael, Montoya, anybody who asks. ...Jr said Mark is a great ambassador for motorsports.
In today's race, he said he brushed the wall in turn 2, and the crew took him to the tail fixing it. He was pissed the eff off on the scanner! They thought it was nothing, but the caution 10 laps later was a blessing because his tires were chunked and a fender was rubbing. He could have been on the tail in a back up car instead of the front row. Thats when he decided to just stay back and run with the underdogs. He went by Norm Benning, and commented "Thats a cool paint scheme on the 57". It is black with a silver roof and numbers, like his dad's car. I like Dale Jr.
Stewart and Kahne had a great finish.

Hell yeah he did..he looked good out there. Led the race for a bit..was glad to see that. Looks like it might not take him and Addington long to click like I thought it would.

Harvick won the shootout, and came up just inches short of winning the duel. The man knows his way around Daytona!

If they Duels were any kind of preview, Sunday is going to be awesome to watch.

I was very impressed with Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne yesterday.

Both ran very well.

I was pretty concerned with Smoke's car until the caution came out and they had the time to fix what was going on.
