This thing is going to wear me out by the time it happens.
Schools in my area that I work are already closed for Monday and canceling after school sporting events.
So what are everyone's eclipse plans? I'll probably be painting the basement of Dads rental.

We are in the last location the eclipse is going over and it is a complete cluster. No hotel rooms, traffic will be a disaster, schools are cancelled, NASA is here, etc. My work is giving out free glasses so people stay at work, so I guess I'm doing that.

Last week while rummaging around in my garage, I pulled out a large hard-bound book on astronomy my parents got for me in second grade. At the time I was fascinated with the moon and telescopes, and that book opened up whole new worlds, pardon the expression.
I saw my first total lunar eclipse four years later, not long after getting a telescope for Christmas. Have been waiting a long time to see a total solar eclipse, especially the corona during totality.
Not sure what the traffic will be like, but I'm heading down I-65 early Monday morning with a couple of friends, will try to find an exit just north of Nashville where we can park and watch, and then head back to Columbus.
If the traffic keeps us from reaching Nashville in time, there's always Dayton in 2024.

It last like 2 1/2 minutes, why the cancellations?

I think it's pretty cool and I will watch. My parents will be in some small town in MO that's in the path of totality, so they are more excited than most.

I'll be at work but I'm definitely interested and will be going outside to check it out. My work has glasses for us so at least I don't have to worry about getting any.

My co-worker said his kid's school is cancelled because the eclipse happens when they are typically letting kids out for the day. I suppose it's safer to just cancel than to have a bunch of elementary school kids going blind on the bus ride home.Verbal Kint;1867473 wrote:It last like 2 1/2 minutes, why the cancellations?

The totality lasts 2-3 minutes; the partial runs 2-3 hours.
How's it going sleeper?

I'm excited. In Raleigh, son not totality, but we should get around 90% coverage.
