Being incompetent is not grounds for firing a teacher. If it was, ccrunner would have probably been gone a long time ago.

It can be done, but it is way too hard than it should be to remove someone who should not be there.

Unfortunately, most principals don't have the stones to go through what needs to be done to remove a teacher.

Blame the lawmakers who put the legislative process in place as well as the districts who agree to provisions in the CBA.

The state incorporated a new teacher evaluation process a few years ago that basically took every teachers rights to tenure and seniority out. Teacher performance is rated half on students value added scores half on principal evaluations. Most teachers can't have 2 bad years in a row or they can be fired. So threads and stories like this are total BS and only serves to make teachers and education look bad.

You know, as well as I do, that big city unions are not the same as small schools where we work.

Out of genuine curiosity, how is student performance determined for a gym teacher? Note I refrained from making a dodgeball joke...

Walkthroughs, pre observation meeting, 2 observations of teaching by the principal, post observation. Numerous aspects of teaching are placed into the observation and rated.

For me I have a pretest on knowledge needed on phys ed standards and a pre measurement of physical fitness. I score those and have made a rubric of where each kid must get their scores to show 1 year's growth in phys ed. This makes up my other 50%.

Also each kid in 2nd, 5th and 6th grade for me must be rated a 1, 2 or 3 in every standard and benchmark. About 25 different total.

My kids play dodge ball 1x a year after their state testing is over in their classroom.

Pete Rose was great.
