Assuming they make it to the playoffs, I think their three frontline starters will be Kluber-Carrasco-pitcher acquired via trade at the deadline. I really think they will make a move to add another quality starter and there should be a ton of them to choose from.

Bauer is a front end of the rotation pitcher in the making. He has #1/#2 type stuff as was evidenced last night. What's been missing is the consistency of performance that a guy like Kluber or Carrasco brings to the mound. Before you bail on him, check out the history of Kluber and Carrasco and how long it took for them to develop the consistency and the mental toughness it takes to deliver it. If Bauer delivers last night's kind of performance on a regular basis, by the end of the season, somebody else will be worried about being "#3".

I am much more worried about Salazar, who is further along in the process and just doesn't seem to get it at all. He's the guy that should be delivering solid performances outing after outing.

There's no question that Bauer has the stuff & the physical makeup to be a #1/#2 guy. It's what's between the ears that's the problem. I don't think Kluber or Carrasco were ever known to be head cases.

Guys, Carrasco was a lost cause. We had to send him to the Pen for an extended period of time and Mickey had to completely retool him because he wouldn't adjust and didn't have it mentally. It is literally the exact same. Like, do we not remember 2011, 2012 (when he wasn't even with the damn team!), 2013 or 2014??? Carrasco didn't learn how to pitch and control his emotions as a starter until he was 28 (2015).

Kluber just wasn't good enough and spent forever in the minors. When he finally did get the call up in 2012 as a 26 year old, he wasn't great. Inconsistent at best. First full year was as a 27 year old, he had his first really good year (still had 8, 6, 7, 6 runs given up games).

Trevor Bauer is STILL just 26. He has never had an ERA over 4.5 and has increased his innings pitched every season. This year should hit 200. He is at a career high in K/9 (by a longshot) and career low in BB/9. His FIP is a career low and WHIP is career high, indicating a decent amount of bad luck so far. He has a WAR of .4, despite an awful ERA thus far, again indicating he has pitched much better than his numbers.

I get it and don't disagree. He shouldn't be getting clubbed by the #9 hitter. Otherwise, he pitched well but that's not worth much when you lose in the end.
