Should be an exciting game. Garaway has not played since 12/22. That is a 16 day lay off. Who would have thought a team would only have 4 games under their belt one week into January. Will this be a factor for the Pirates?

There is some bad weather in the forcast but it will take quite a dose of snow to cut off the trip down RT39.

How Garaway's players respond to the lay off is definitely a factor. The thing I will be looking at is how the game looks at half and mid-way through the 3rd. In order to get you to play at their pace, Hiland invites a lot of drives to the basket, so you can get up on them if you can convert, but they try to wear you out and beat you in the fourth. Garaway has to get up and then have enough gas in the tank to go to the end. Not sure they have the depth for that. And if Dylan, Noah, Jalen, Josh, et.al. are playing at a high level like in the 2nd half at Triway...

I like Hiland to win this one by 10-15 points.

he played for Garaway back in the early 90's. 6'4" manchild that could throw it down. You don't remember him?? He was an animal on the football field as well.

Oh wait, does Hiland play football??:D

I was out of the area then, so don't remember much at all about the late 80s and early 90s.
and i think we're still undefeated in football... :)

i can't believe they cancelled this game, was it Garaway that wanted to. i was just listening to WKLM radio and they said West Holmes is going to play there game at Mansfield Madison tonight, can't figure out why we can't play our game . now we have Malvern on the jan22 and Garaway on the jan23. two really tough games in a row

Yeah...quite certain that it was Garaway---the away team---that decided the 10 miles of STATE ROUTE 39 was two snow covered to make this trip. If someone knows these aren't the facts feel free to post, but to me this looks a little fishy. Looks like Garaway was looking for a good reason not to have to play hiland after an extended layoff???

perhaps also a coincidence it got rescheduled after the Malvern game???

I thought that if there was no school that it was policy that all sporting events were also cancelled. And I am pretty sure that the basketball coach does not have much of a say in the play don't play issue. And I am sure that the person who does make that call really doesn't care that much about the out come of the game when making the decision. I am pretty sure that it was not the only game cancelled last night.

to be clear: Hiland was more than ready to host this game. Roads cleared, parking lot cleared, gym ready, etc. Hiland was notified by Garaway at 2pm that they (Garaway) would not be able to make it , apparently because of the terrible(my editorial comment) road conditions. If any of you can't remember what the conditions were at that time, I'll remind you: st rt 39 was clear, most county roads had minimal snow and easily drivable. Perhaps some back township roads were probably still snow covered. There was no snow on the weather radar within 75 miles (I looked) and minimal snow in the forcast. You can reach your own conclusions.
And yes, the sub auction will be after the Ridgewood game tonite.
In reply to Bfan: some school districts have the provision/rule that states if you miss school for weather related issues, you can't play an athletic event that same day. Neither Hiland nor Garway have that rule in place. I would guess the AD has the say whether to proceed with the game, don't know for sure. Quite doubtful that decision is made in a vacuum. And it may well be true that other games were cancelled. I don't know of the road conditions in other area, but I DO know what the road conditions in this area were. And I highly doubt you'll be able to convince anybody in the East Holmes school district that weather was the ONLY concerning factor in this game getting cancelled.

there you go---a reliable source. feel a little better that it came from the super, but again, doubt that decision was made in a vacuum.

at some point its gonna be tough making up all these games, we may have reached that point now. way back to the winters of '77 & '78 we had serious cold and snow, if i remember correctly we (Hiland) had 5 days of school in jan. it was great, we played some of the games but cancelled some too. i remember having a ton of games to go in feb. playing tue., fri., sat., mon., games in 1 week and having no legs by mondays game up at northwestern. aughh the good old days! anybody remember the big hit tv movie roots?

Yeah it came from the super after someone said, "It would be nice to play someone else before we play Hiland." Nothing else makes sense because, as Ricola said, there were no travel hazards on primary roads. Heck, Conotton Valley traveled to TCC last night just fine. If my wife can drive her minivan up our unplowed driveway - 300 feet winding uphill - then they could've loaded a bus in Garaway and driven to Berlin on clear 39. This is bullship - that is a vessel that carries male bovines.

Oh you crazy conspiracy nuts. Garaway is out to level the playing field that's all. lol. They had the right to make the decision they did, and would there have been an accident involving either players or fans headed to the game, I wonder if the same people would be clamouring the game should have been cancelled.

Looks like the mind games are being played rather well at this moment. Also, if the roles were reversed, would anything change??

Made the trip from Stras-vegas to Walnut Creek Cheese on Friday around 4:30 with no problem. Hard to believe, Garaway finding a way out of being waxed by their good friends from Hiland!! Should've played it & then Shutt would have the perfect "haven't played in so long" excuse!! He needs a refresher course in excuses from Coach Wallick!

Ouch Lucky!

Well 300, you like it when spice is added to the rivalries, so no wonder you like what Garaway did.

Ruined our night. Planned on being at the PRCC and ended up having to stay home, play some board games and have some family fun. I guess it wasn't so bad after all. :)

But I still say it is a humongous, stinking bullship.
