Just a random observation from the last few games...does anyone else get nervous anytime a fly ball, or ball in general, is hit in Almonte's vicinity? Especially fly balls, that guy is not smooth at all...even camping under it. Looks super nervous, and almost holds his glove the wrong way. If Diaz is now an OF, he may be the odd man out. Someone needs to start hitting on this team other than Lindor and Jose.

RISP: 1-12. Only GIDP was 3, I thought it was 4 for some reason. I think four shots to the warning track tonight. Bauer. Joey getting stares in at McA.

Frustrating game to watch.

So close, but the Blue jays made all the key plays at the right time.

I want to punch this smug m-fer every time I see him do an interview. You'd think he was the three time reigning Cy Young Award winner with the way he's always "I think I pitched well" bullshit. Newsflash, Trev....you haven't "pitched well" in a LONG time.

Stat I posted recently has him having 5 out of his last 28 starts being "quality" (less than 3 runs in 6 innings, which again is bullshit because that comes out to an average 4.50 ERA which is far from "quality" in my eyes).

I agree with you that it is a horrible way to define "quality." Only 5 teams in baseball currently have an ERA worse than 4.50, so it is not even close to an average start.

Most teams would sign up for 4.50 ERA from their 5th starter all day long. That just so happens to be his career ERA. Howeva (Stephen A Smith voice), he is currently sporting an ERA over 7 this season.

Personally...I am a big fan of the "process" in everything I do. You can't get too wrapped up in short term results whether you are a Sales Manager, MLB pitcher, Financial Advisor (basically any results orientated business). If you have good habits and are executing your plan, the long term results will be there. To use my examples, you can make all the right decisions based on the data presented to you and still lose money in the short term investing. Same way as a pitcher can make good pitches and get hit. With that said....you only get so long until people start to doubt your "process" because ultimately, we are all judged based on the results and the bottomline.

So I understand where Bauer is coming from when he says that he's happy with his pitches and where he is locating them and the "we had a gameplan and I executed it...just didn't work out" line. But if it is true, we should start to see some dominating starts here very shortly.

I thought he was fine for us last year. Gave us 28 starts plus a tremendous outing vs Toronto out of the bullpen to extend our win streak. 12-8. 4.26 ERA. To me, he's a consistent 4 or 5 starter who, even when he is off, can still eat up innings and not burn a bullpen. At his best, he can give you a really strong outing. I was really hoping he would take the next step forward this year but so far, not the case. There are stats to suggest he does have good stuff. His K's/9 is over 10 and 2 full higher than last year. However, his home run rate is also higher so location is obviously an issue. Take away a bloop single that is caught if the infield isn't in and he gave up a two run homer in 6 innings.

I get it and I get the "marathon, not a sprint" mentality but this guy has been underachieving for a long time. Yes, he's a fifth starter and teams would be happy with the 4.50 ERA from that slot in the rotation, but when he was brought in, all I can remember was "front line/ace type starter stuff" and he's never panned out. Plus, he's a bit of a distraction.

^^^Bauer is still developing as a pitcher...see Carlos Carrasco. We didn't lose that game last nite because of Bauer. We haven't been hitting all week....and when we did last night, they didn't find any holes or the BJs made a great play to take a hit/RBIs away.

Yea, reminds me of some of the "after work league" slow pitch soft ballers I know.

His play is full of shake my head moments.

Tribe winning the game 2-0 in the 3rd. Want to go back to Bauer a little bit.

We are judging Bauer over the last 2 seasons plus the 1st month of the season. Bauer is 26.

His 25 year old season I mentioned earlier. 12-8. ERA 4.26.

His 24 year old season he started 30 games for us and went 11-12 with ERA of 4.55.

So let's compare him to a pitcher who has always been much better than him, right? Corey Kluber. Everyone would agree there I think.

So how was Kluber when he was 24? Well...he had never thrown a pitch in the MLB yet.

At 25...when Bauer started 30 games and went 12-8 for a team that went to the World Series...surely Kluber was better than that, right?

Nope. 3 games out of the bullpen. 8.31 ERA.

26 year old Kluber? 2-5 in 12 starts. 5.31 ERA

So let's all take Trevor for what he is...a guy who's had some ups and downs but the jury is still out. Guys figure it out at different times. And Bauer may never figure it out but if he does...he will be real good because he has filthy stuff.

I don't mind Bauer that much, but I do think he needs to go "find it" in Cbus or something. The big time isn't where you practice your craft. Like to see Gomes hitting.

I appreciate the breakdown. It makes sense. BUT, I'm never going to be Team Bauer. I personally don't see "it" with him, and he gives off the jerk vibe. So it may be more personal vs logic for me on Bauer, but who knows. Hopefully he figures it out, but I don't see it happening.

Also, get your crap together Kip. If you're hurt, have a seat and get healthy. If you're playing, start doing something productive.

Same. I rode with him forever, and had finally given up. I'm not 100% convinced he is back, but it's been 14 games now of being our best hitter.

Tribe is 4 outs away from being 16-3 when we score 3+ runs. The pitching is just incredible (granted not all those wins mean we held opponent to less than 3 runs). But, if/when this offense gets hot for a prolonged period, this team could rack up a ton of Ws in a quick span.

Carrasco was nasty tonight. Gomes with a three run dinger and he looks a lot more comfortable at the plate.
