So, I mentioned awhile back that we were adopting. Now, the agency is putting that on hold, because Mrs. O-Trap is expecting. After about seven and a half years of trying, we're going to have a baby.
However, I don't get my company's insurance for another couple months. In the meantime, we're having to self-pay, which is on the pricey side.
We make okay money, so we've been able to afford things so far, and we have family willing to help if necessary, but are there any ideas out there on helping cover the visit and test costs for the next couple months, aside from government-instituted initiatives (which we would not likely qualify for, anyway)?

I do appreciate the irony of asking about government led initiatives to help people while espousing libertarian values.

I said "aside from government-instituted initiatives." I wouldn't take them anyway, but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't qualify, even if I didn't have ethical reasons for not wanting them.sleeper;1849955 wrote:Congrats!

Congratulations!
I've heard local radio ads about a conservative med-share type of thing before. I can't think of the name of it, though XD

Time to stock up on dill pickle-flavored ice cream for the wife, and Kroger-brand disposable diapers for the new rugrat.

I don't know what is considered "pricey" for health insurance.
I recently had to purchase a gap insurance plan since I've changed jobs. For me and my two girls it costs $150-160 a month. It's a solid plan too. We'll be on it for maybe a little over a month to two months. My wife has her own insurance through her school district. I don't know how much it costs, but she said once another person or persons are added onto it the costs skyrocket. I don't know what that was though.

How far along is your wife? If she's still early on, you can probably get away with not many doctor visits or ultrasounds as long as everything has looked good so far.

Just don't go to the doctor for the next 3 months, take some over the counter prenatal vitamins and everything will be fine
.
We had a similar situation with our second child actually, and we told her OBGYN that for the first couple months we would be paying out of pocket/cash and then would have insurance.
They REALLY backloaded the different tests/visits for us and only did the required visits/tests the first few months to make sure everything was 'ok' with mom and baby. I ended up having to pay less than $1000 total until we had insurance.
Just talk to the doctor up front and explain, they typically will work with you (mainly because they think most people paying up front end up not paying for like a decade).

Sounds like the baby might be born before year-end, so you will get another exemption/deduction that will help.
