Currently looking at a relatively inexpensive laptop so I can access files and email from home, and the Mrs can do her stuff: internet, photo editing etc… nothing major. Will probably be between an HP Pavillion 15, or Dell Inspiron 15. Not sure if she wants touch screen or not, but either sounds like they will be more than capable to handle what we want --- both around $600. Any pointers welcome; thx.

Dell has good value, just not sure if the value is worth rolling the dice on having to interact with their customer service. On the other hand, HP customer service might not be much better.

I wouldn't order direct from Dell if it can be avoided. Just grab it at Best Buy or Costco.

Because Dell's customer service is rivaled only by Comcast. Do not deal with that if it can be avoided.

Never heard of customer service being a deciding factor regarding a computer purchase.

My friend recently got an Acer Aspire, touch screen laptop. Really nice for the money. I'm not sure on the specs but it was around $900.

Well, a key part of the purchase is them actually making the machine. And another key part of the purchase is them actually delivering the machine.

They got one of those wrong the last two times I ordered online from them. Oh, and charging me for just 1 machine and not additional laptops I didn't order.

I will never order another Dell computer. I'm surprised you've not heard of their horrible customer service. It's legendary.

With my recent purchase of the MacBook Air researching youtube for how to operate the system I stumbled across this video. I had no idea where Steve Jobs came from, well worth the 38 minute ride through the video.
