I've bought six pc's in the last ten years and wondering if the Mac is worth the cash and is the longevity greater than the pc?

I use what I'm comfortable using, programs I like and how they operate, what I can transfer easy from my old system, work and others that I relate with.... So because of those factors PC is me home,work computer

I made the switch to Mac about 9 years ago. I sold my first Macbook Pro to my mom about 6 years ago and she is still using it. My current Macbook Pro is a mid-2014 model and it hasn't shown any signs of age. I would guess I'll try to get another 3-4 years out of it before getting a new one.

That said, I haven't been impressed with the attention Apple has given their laptop line lately. They currently only seem to give a crap about the iPhone. Hopefully that changes, because for the work I do, the Mac platform is much, much better than Windows.

I got a MacBook Pro in 2009 when I was a senior in high school and it lasted me through school. I got a new MacBook Air last February.

Mac all the way, however their pretentiousness towards the PC world pisses me the fuck off.

I wouldn't pay much attention to those folks. They are the types to jump on every new fad/trend. They'd switch to PC in a second if it was the "cool" thing to do.

No, I'm talking about the company itself. If 95% of the world is doing it one way, they'll purposely do it their own way, and say "fuck you" at switching.

I've worked on, and taught Macs for the past 13 years. While I love them, I've built up a lot of resentment, though. Never enough to actually switch, but enough to passive-aggressively bitch on the internet.

Gotcha. That's just marketing. And they are pretty good at it.

I give it a good rating. I've had one for a year or two and I like it a lot. Not super-powered or anything, but does everything I need it to do and performs well.

I've used Apple products about my whole life. MacClassic in early college, Performa senior year and first couple years out of college, iMac for a long ass time, an older laptop when the iMac gave up the ghost and the MacBook when the old laptop got too primitive to function all that well. Always liked them more than PCs.

I got an Air about a year ago. They're great laptops.

I've had a Macbook Air since 1L year of law school (2013). The battery is not nearly as good as it used to be, but everything else is fine.

I just bought an iMac two weeks ago. I have owned pcs for years and wanted to try something different. So far I really like my iMac. Runs a lot faster and the ad-blocker seems to work much better than a pc with windows 10.

What everyone else said. I use it about 6 hours a day at work and maybe for an hour in the evenings. Never have problems with speed or functionality. Battery lasts all day and charges from dead to 100% in about 30 minutes. I like the weight most, because I carry it with me to verify orders on rounds for 3-4 hours straight.

Gonna look into this app. My MBP is an early 2011 model and it's starting to slow down. I'm considering dropping $3-400 in upgrades to speed it up (SSD + more memory), but not sure if it will be worth it. My battery is also going to shit and the touchpad is glitchy.

I definitely favor Mac. PC would have to get extremely good to get me to change platforms.

I bought my first macbook in June of last year. I bought it strictly because we have iphones (2) ipads (3) and ipods (1) so the idea of having all of the files transferable over airdrop was a huge plus. I still have a PC, I use it pretty regularly but the amount of convenience that the macbook provides to my family is tremendous and I'm not ashamed to admit that I love it.

I would select your next computer solely on how convenient it will make your life after you own it. You can get a properly powered machine for pretty cheap if you want, but if you value 1 click file sharing across multiple devices you'll have to weigh that against the price of the machine.

Don't they all use the same parts, made in China? Otherwise, spend another $200 extra for Bootcamp so you can run MS Office?

I wouldn't fault anyone for either, but I think generally you get better value on the PC side. As always with Apple, you're paying for the brand and a lot of marketing (and that ain't free)!

There are more options to consider than ever (touchscreen, tablet/2in1 mode, SSD and size)....For my money, assuming you don't need a ton of power, I'd go with the Dell XPS 13 for like $900 - IMO the best ultrabook out there. Ultrabooks carry a large premium, but they're the portable, sexy options.

If you don't care about that, heck if you just need to access the internet then look into some of the "chromebooks"....a decent laptop can be had in the $250-$500 range.

I bought a PC for my son's homework. I've used it twice in a year and a half. I can do everything on my phone that I need.

Not disputing the rest of your post, but I didn't need to pay anything extra to use Microsoft products. All of them are commercially available for Mac. Not sure what Bootcamp is.

I'm probably a little dated. Bootcamp is what allows you to dual-boot Windows, basically making your Mac into a PC. I see a fair number of Mac's in the business world, so maybe there there aren't any compatibility issues to worry about. But I think there could be some issues if you aren't running Bootcamp (people I work with run Bootcamp, otherwise, in the past at least, there were occasionally issues passing Powerpoints and Excel files back and forth with PC's).

MS Office works fine for Macs although I prefer the Windows version.

I went with the MacBook Air 8G/256GB. I need to get used to a few things but definately money well spent, wish I would have made the switch sooner.
