This is a pretty interesting story I saw the other day. Could this kid be the second coming of Lou Gehrig or is the mother putting us all on and feeding her kid lines?

Sounds awesome. How old is this kid now? Obviously very skeptical [emoji3].
He'll probably grow up and become an NBA player and sit out for rest 8x a season

The idea of reincarnation is a lot more believable than some of the shit the Bible tells you.

I'd say the odds are 99.5% the mother is feeding her kids linesjustincredible;1843907 wrote:This is a pretty interesting story I saw the other day. Could this kid be the second coming of Lou Gehrig or is the mother putting us all on and feeding her kid lines?

He's the preschooler who's thrown out 1st pitches at MLB games. Kid attends a LA game and says his favorite player is Clayton Kershaw when interviewed....

Probably more likely than the typical religious heaven/hell/valhalla/happy hunting grounds/tartarus etc., but I'd still put it closer to the "fairy tales for the gullible" department than reality.

I think the only people who know what it's like to be dead are people who are already dead.
But I don't think reincarnation is completely unbelievable. I definitely think I have a conscience (however you want to define it) and I find it odd to believe when I die that it just goes away.

I like to tell the certain ethnic telemarketers who call to inform me that something is wrong with my computer or that I owe money to the IRS and am facing arrest.........that I am grilling hamburgers and will probably be eating their grandparents.

I agree. I don't know what's out there "after life." I don't know if it's heaven/hell, or reincarnation, or a parallel universe....or whatever. But I don't believe it's "lights out" as many on this board seem to believe.FatHobbit;1844123 wrote:I think the only people who know what it's like to be dead are people who are already dead.

If you're dead, how is your conscious able to continue on? I guess I can't wrap my head around my "spirit" or "conscious" continuing on after I'm dead.SnotBubbles;1844318 wrote:I agree. I believe "consciousness" was the appropriate word here.

This, but I think conscious works too.Zunardo;1844559 wrote:I believe "consciousness" was the appropriate word here.
I'm of the opinion that your conscious or consciousness is a construct of the brain. When the brain dies, so does it. I am open to being persuaded otherwise, though.

Not attempting to persusde but what if your brain is a construct of your conscious?
Not religious either so I'm not coming from any angle even remotely related to that dogma
When you boil it all down, isn't a brain basically a biological mass firing electrons at incredible speeds that gives us our senses and allow us to interface with our surroundings?
If that definition holds water, wouldn't it be logical to conclude that something else (consciousness) operates this biological computer?
I'm not gonna pretend to say I know if reincarnation is possible or not because I don't know. I will say that I'm not ready to dismiss it because our understanding of the human mind/brain is extremely limited IMO.

"Conscious" is the state of being awake and alert, as far as I know. I don't think it applies to this discussion at all. That should be "conscience".

I think the noun part of "conscious" is what is being referred. But I think it's consciousness.GOONx19;1844620 wrote:"Conscious" is the state of being awake and alert, as far as I know. I don't think it applies to this discussion at all. That should be "conscience".
