Science shows that starting class later (9am-4pm) would greatly benefit an adolescent mind.
Getting up at 6am to catch the bus at 7am does not work well for our youth.

I think you should tailor the education experience to the students.

For example, my daughter is a spelling machine, she complains and sometimes even gets in trouble because kids in her class need extra time working on spelling assignments and she gets bored. In the same vein she struggles with math and there is a kid next door who is much stronger there and gets bored during Math time. It'd be nice if you could learn each subject based on your affinity for it. that way the teachers can cover more material and not have to slow down for kids not on the same level as everyone else.

Good start .........glad to see the radical left continuing to shut down dialogue; that's helpful.
Peaceful protest is a part of Democracy. Maybe Devos should consider listening to those that have experience rather than continue to push her for-profit agenda.

Indeed it is but restricting government officials from carrying out their daily activities is not a part of "democracy"....or in our case a constitutional republic.

It certainly is. Non-violent peaceful protest and civil disobedience was how blacks earned equal rights to white people.

Devos is welcome to resign if she can't handle it. Maybe don't buy off Senators so you can install your for-profit charter schools that benefit your own interests.

As far as how to fix the schools, it's rather simple. Fix the structural poverty issues in society first and the schools will follow. Parents should be more worried about how their children are doing school rather than working 2 jobs just to feed their families.

Dont think that will make a difference. If the only activity a kid gets is that very limited time in PE class it wont do a damned thing.

It's Physical Education...not Physical Fitness.

A 4th grader having my class once or twice a week (depending on semester) and stretching a few minutes then doing a quick rotation of 6 exercises followed by 3 min of jogging definitely won't do much to help them become physically fit....but learning and understanding the 5 components of physical fitness, target heart rate, the FITT Principle etc while keeping a weekly activity log can go a long way in educating them on how to get themselves or keep themselves fit.

Correct

Its about exposure to exercise and familiarity of how to do it so that later in life we can recall it and use it later. People dont think of it this way but we learned the values of fitness at a early age

Breaking the law is not a component of the structure of democracy...no matter the historical actions of our country.

Devos does appear to be able to handle it and did so today.

You really should study American history, particularly the civil rights movement.

She is welcome to resign if she can't handle it. These were non-violent protestors exercising their 1st amendment rights. Sorry!

I'm familiar with the civil rights movements. The effectiveness of the actions of activist doesn't change the construct of what democracy is. I never spoke of violence as it relates to the these protesters. IN addition, the first amendment isn't inclusive of blocking the normal duties of federally appointed persons.

Glad she can handle it. She's going to deal with it in increasing intensity until she resigns or until she puts American children first instead of corporate interest. We just want what's best for the children; why can't Republicans?

I'm also not a huge fan of our union. I think if you made teachers pay based on performance, you'd see a lot better teachers coming into the field and would motivate the ones who have become lazy. How to fully incorporate performance based pay may be tricky though. Right now I only get evaluated 2x a year.
