I have a rule that I never buy my wife anything with a cord on it....unless she asks for it.

Yeah, an appliance is for the entire household; it's like getting myself something but saying it is for her. If you are getting her a Christmas gift; it should be for her ....................................as I learned a long, long time ago :)

My fiance and I also are taking this approach, since we are wedding planning. We snagged relatively cheap tickets to Amsterdam back in the fall and decided that will be our gifts to each other. One thing I didn't plan for was the fact now I am marrying into another family so i have extra people on the Christmas list. I should have known this, but it never crossed my mind until now.

My brother got me this knife for my bday a couple years ago, and I treat it like my baby. I won't let anyone use it, I bought a cover for it, and I take it to the knife sharpener once a month. It's an amazing knife, and it has gotten to the point where having a knife set is a complete waste. This one in particular is a Chef's knife and not a Santoku, but i'd recommend this brand. I think they also have a Santoku knife.
