Ran across a pretty thought-provoking article that seemingly does a pretty good job of explaining the appeal of Donald Trump to a lot of the country.

HINT: It's not prejudicial ignorance.

Given the makeup of Ohio, and probably most states, it seemed like it would be a good share for this board.

That was a very good read, and I cannot argue with... any of it, really.

I think someone posted this in another thread a couple weeks back or I saw it on twitter then. Still was really cool to read it again.

Yeah, that is a good article. Cracked generally is one of my main "down-time" 'net reads and that's one example of why.

True.

but not where they counted most!

Take out that ultra liberal California and the donald has it. Not sure we should be looking for guidance and leadership models from those whackjobs out there anyways!

But a ton less than Obama. Trump basically was Romney, but Hillary couldn't touch the Obama support. She also lost a ton of white males and surprisingly black women (almost as many as the white men). Trump actually pulled more black male and hispanics than Romney. The numbers are pretty interesting. o

The only part I disagree with is somehow Trump represents the rural man and not some big city asshole. Lofl at that.

I don't think he actually does, but he's been accepted to do so because it has been pushed that he opposes the ivory tower politicians. By extension of that, he's depicted as standing for the populists.

Another explanation, and while Jonathan Pie's outrage is obviously contrived as part of his signature, I thought this was actually pretty good.

As I said in another thread, one of the reasons I think more minorities voted for Trump this election is simply because they are starting to enter that point of the curve where they are simply tired of being useful tools to a party that promises everything but delivers nothing but welfare.

The media really enables this. "Access" has been covertly used to effectively create state-run media where various outlets are basically party propagandists. That facilitates herding people into voting blocs and being made into single-issue voters. That's why the left tries so hard to paint Repubs as the party of white men (and sometimes old white men)....because if you do the math and convince 60%(?) of voters they can't morally/socially vote Republican, then you don't have to do much to earn and maintain power.

I hate populism. It's good for winning elections, but not so good for running a country. No one would want their doctor to just tell them what they want to hear, they'd want them to make you healthier. But when it comes to politics, I guess not so much so long as "your team" wins.
