By taking less, he allowed other players to take more. It will probably be a wash in total player income by the end of the contracts. I don't disagree here. He always puts teams in compromising situations and seems to do nothing to help. I just can't get behind the "he should take less money." Who are we to tell somebody that they should take less money? I also think as a union member (first VP) it's a conflict of interest for him to take anything less than his max worth.

That's not the point of the players union. You want every player to take in the max offer they can get, especially your best players, so you can shift the median salary of the entire league upward. When every player is taking their best offer, they can use those numbers in the next CBA negotiations. The 2nd best player in the NBA accepting Harrison Barnes money (well below his worth), so a couple role players can make an extra few million is not the purpose of the union.

The next CBA isn't for awhile, but the owners have been getting worked in those negotiations. They need to start taking notes and stand firm next CBA, before they pretty much give away all of the control to the players.

Not to mention, GSW had Bird rights to Durant. They could've signed all 3 of them, just a bigger hit to the luxury tax/salary cap hit. All Durant did was weaken a union Jenis a part of, so his owner could save some money.

Yeah it was supposed to be today. ESPN jumped the gun and reported info from a source as fact. But it is Boston after all.

The money is crazy, regardless of whether it's there or not for the teams. Crazy good set up for players when a guy like Porter can get a max deal

He's actually a very good player.

I would say Kobe's last deal with the Lakers was far worse. Gilbert Arenas's contract was also worse, by a mile.

I actually think the Nets did the Wiz a favor by getting him to sign a 4 yr, $100 deal. If he had held the wiz's feet to the fire, he would have gotten the 5 yr $128M contract. He's their 2nd best player behind Wall IMO.

Well depends on what you're looking for. Porter is a great wing player [elite defender and knowndown 3 pt shooter]. Beal has one season where he's played more than 55 games and is a mediocre defender. I will say, beal is a solid rebounding guard which I appreciate. That was a great article. The interesting part was that Paul is analytic-wise super-elite simply because he goes all-out all the time, but when it comes time for the playoffs when everyone is doing that, his advantage is gone and he winds up losing that edge.

I really liked the part about defense, I've never considered him a good defender despite all his accolades. This article summed it very well why he's an ineffective defender.
