Shitty news about Cookie, but we've got a lot of baseball left to play this year.

Game 1, Tuesday 7:10 - Josh Tomlin (12-8, ERA 4.75, WHIP 1.25) vs. Edinson Volquez (10-11, ERA 5.4, WHIP 1.53)
Game 2, Wednesday 7:10 - Corey Kluber (17-9, ERA 3.12, WHIP 1.04) vs. Ian Kennedy (11-9, ERA 3.6, WHIP 1.2)
Game 3, Thursday 7:10 - Mike Clevinger (2-2, ERA 4.76, WHIP 1.41) vs. Jason Vargas in his 2nd appearance of this year

Go Tribe.

Go Tribe! A little mix up, series begins Tuesday and the Indians app says it will be Tomlin, Kluber, Clevinger.

Go Tribe.

We need somebody to step up and become Jared Wright circa 1997. Could it be Clevinger?

A quick look behind the numbers. Jared Wright finished the 1997 regular season with 90 IP and a 4.38 ERA. He got 16 starts. Mike "The Flow" Clevinger has made 8 starts but has 14 appearances. Add in two starts down the stretch and that'll be 16 appearances...just like Wright. He's at 45 innings now so give him an average of 6 more over 2 starts and that will put him at 57 innings. His ERA is currently 4.76 so not far off from Wright.

Wright pitched twice in the ALDS...going 2-0 vs the Yankees (fun fact...I was in the house the clinching game 5 vs the Yankees and Andy Pettitte).

I guess my memory gets a little foggy then because Wright got rocked in his only start vs the O's in the ALCS.

But he rebounded and pitched well in Game 4 of the World Series and got the win. He also started game 7 on 3 days rest and he was good but we all know how that ended.

So...what do we think?

I've actually read that we will go a 3 man rotation in the playoffs, with Kluber/Bauer and then Tonkin and clevinger each pitching 3 innings or so depending on how the game goes. Wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea with the strength of our bullpen

Jaret Wright was unbelievable in the 1997 playoffs. Was only 21 and popping 97-99 on the gun late in the games late in the playoffs

Indians went for it that year and should've won it all....Wright was so young and only 103 innings on that arm the year before....then was over 190 innings before the playoffs.

He was never the same.

Of interest:

Cleveland's rotation is no longer set to feature one of the game's elite trios, but teams have won without dominant staffs. Just last year, Kansas City won it all with a rotation that ranked 22nd in ERA, 21st in FIP and 23rd in fWAR in the regular season. Two years ago, Madison Bumgarner hoisted the Giants on his back. Over the past 15 years, the average ranks in those categories for the World Series-champion rotations were 10.5 (ERA), 11.1 (FIP) and 12.2 (fWAR).

Long story short...we are going to need our offense to help in the playoffs and win us a few games if we are going to make a run. We can't banking on winning 11 games 1-0 or 2-1.

With Almonte not eligible for the post season, I don't understand why he's taking at-bats away from other players...he's such a huge liability on defense.

If this was the playoffs...Tomlin would have done his job at this point.

Top 5 update:

Royals get 2 hits off of Tomlin, and a run off of Almonte.

To the bottom, 1-1.

I hope that the Tribe clinches soon so that sleepwalker can head on down the road.

I saw a movie where a woman wanted a 4th footlong and she wasn't charged either. By the end of it she was the only thing looking like a Subway.

Another STUPID baseball stat...........Santana, 33 home runs this season, most in Majors by a switch hitter since 2011.

Ok, he has 4 from the right side.
