How are the Chinese establishments in your area? Are they the same as always or going downhill?

There are two in my area and over the years we'd order out about 3x every 2 months. Typically pretty satisfied and we'd go back and forth a bit on which one was better. Over the last year both have went downhill considerably...the one I made my son promise me we'd never go again. The more regular one still gets our business about once a month but almost everything we order seems to be poorer and poorer quality, whereas it was consistent for a decade before.

Wondering if they are going to a lower quality rat, horse, dog, cat meat?

Are there two Chinese restaurants in Jackson now or are you also traveling to Wellston for the other one?

I haven't been to either one in quite a while, but I would agree that they aren't as good as they used to be.

The ones in Raleigh are trash. Only style of food I miss NW Ohio for. They had some damn good Chinese take-out places.

Not Chinese, but have you tried Poole's in Raleigh? Really liked that place...best Mac & Cheese I have ever eaten. I've only visited the Triangle a few times, but the food down there is delicious. Love that southern style cooking.

Yeah, Pooles is great. I like their Mac n Cheese, but not the best down here.

Thanks for the recommendation. Gonna try to get back down that way for a Carolina game soon, so I'll be sure to try it out.

Jackson still gets my business some....I will NOT be returning to Wellston for Chinese.

Chinese is junk. I can eat Vietnamese a few times a week. Japanese is also better food and it is easy to find a quality hibachi or sushi.

I'm am right there with you. Huntsville's sucks as well. Must just be a southern thing. I rarely ever get Chinese food now.

Our Japanese steakhouse was shut down due to one of the cooks stabbing someone with knives.

"Chinese" as most know it is rather garbage, and traditional Chinese isn't much better. I rarely eat it.

Watch this documentary on Netflix. A lot of interesting stuff I never knew about Chinese restaurants in the states.

I can't tell the difference between Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese food. Can anyone provide an easy to tell difference breakdown? I like them all, but besides the nationality the restaurant associates with , I would have no clue which is which.

My favorite Chinese place for many years has been the Rice Bowl, south side of Columbus. Are they absolutely authentic? I dunno, but I don't care. They still have great food, and I think they have the best egg rolls in town, no question. My wife had never been to a Chinese place before we were married, but even she swears by those egg rolls now.

Before that, it was the Jong Mea, on the near east side, I think it's been closed for 30 years.

BTW, I just tried pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup, at the food court at Tuttle Mall - I guess that's why they called the place "Pho's". I had the pho with shrimp, fish, and beef, and it was great. Probably be a great dish to have on a cold day.

Tuttle has upgraded the food court in the last year. They also have an Indian curry place there, and I'm going to try it the next time we go.

I don't know how to define the differences, but I have eaten my fair share of Asian cuisine the last few years and can tell there are lotz of differences. Pretty easy to distinguish imo at least from Vietnam/Thai vs China. Completely different styles.

I can tell the difference between Vietnam vs Thai, but that can be a little tougher.

The Flower Drum on Byrne Avenue in West Toledo is the best Chinese food I've had outside of Las Vegas. It's not much to look at. It's the type of place where you could score crack in the parking lot. But it is also the kind of place where the food is even better than the crack.

Bai Du, in your old neck of the woods, is another example of the excellent selection of Chinese food in the metro Toledo area.
