Being one of the major contenders I'd strike first. Lucroy and Chapman and make the mark. Then other contenders get nervous and overpay for others.

You guys have the pieces to get both players?

That would be the way to do it, but that is soooooo not like the Indians. Dolan's M.O. is more like wait to everybody spends furiously to get the best, and then swoop in to get the leftovers for cheap.

This is why I'm not optimistic we will pick up anyone significant

Seems like the vast majority do that...surprised no one has done anything of note yet.

Is your starting pitching good enough after Salazar/Kluber? Who is your 3rd guy that is going to be heavily called upon if they make the postseason?

Looks like Bauer or Tomlin. Bauer looks to have the better metrics while Tomlin seems to have the better fortunes. Bauer walks too many but also strikes out more. Tomlin's HR allowed is a red flag to me and very few walks but also very few strike outs.

If I had to guess I'd guess Bauer better in the postseason but I haven't seen either of them enough to act like that guy who looks at some metrics and boldly acts like he knows everything...I hate that guy.

With what you have I'd focus on Chapman/Lucroy over a 3rd starter. We all know what Chapman does but I have watched Lucroy a litany he is a hell of a player. Can bat middle of the order and is a good catcher at throwing out runners. I think he would be your biggest addition.

Dan O'Dowd thinks the Giants are best bet for Chapman and Cubs are best to get Miller.

We aren't trying to get a starter. Carrasco would be the 3rd starter in the playoffs (probably). The only options are the pen and/ or a bat, but biggest need to me is a reliever. If they weren't trading for a catcher prior to Gomes going down, I don't see how him going down would change anything. If I were the Tribe, a pen guy is all I am focusing on right now.

A starter is the last of the worries. Carrasco coming into the year was the Indians CYA favorite. He has been more than ok, the injury set him back for a few starts. Tomlin would be the 4th starter, and Bauer would be into the Pen. That would be my guess.

Lucroys name popped up a few times before Gomes injury, so I think they were poking around. Probably even moreso now, as Im not sure you want either Perez or CG catching everyday. Perez is more suited for that, but hasnt done so in forever. Giminez is strictly a day off guy.

Give me a LH Reliever, then go after Lucroy.

They have the pieces to get both, but I doubt they spend for both. Could try and get a double barrel package from Milwaukee...Will Smith and Lucroy. Id still want another pen arm though, Chapman or Miller, despite Smith being a LHP...

No, plenty plenty of starting pitching and 5 solid guys. Bauer did look great out of the pen in that ridiculous extra inning game. In the playoffs pitchers that give up too many HR scare me. Tomlin gives up way too many but Carraso also has given up HR at a decently greater rate than Bauer. The Indians may have the best group of starters to get to the postseason compared to any other team...I was just looking how good your #3 would be.

If Lucroy isn't acquired I wouldn't bite on any other catcher and Chapman would be the #1...but I still believe Lucroy would be even bigger piece than Chapman for the Indians.

Essentially, yes. I saw you talking yesterday about how the Cubs wanted both Chapman and Miller for Schwarber and the "every day player" thing has a huge effect on WAR. I think I read, for example, that Schwarber has a projection of +4 WAR, while Miller was more like +1.

You didn't see me talking about WAR. WAR aside...I think Lucroy would be an excellent bat that can hit in the middle of the lineup and a good and experienced defensive catcher.

Reading that Indians prefer Miller over Chapman.

Gomes may not be able to hit but there you see why he still has value. Salazar and Gimenez not on the same page and a pitch that is almost a strike turns into a passed ball on a mix up.

Salazar in a jam here in the 7th.

Shaw throws 8 pitches striking out the first two batters and getting a grounder back to him in the B8.

I'll be the one who says I am not a fan of giving up nice assets for fucking relief pitching, especially with how baseball works for small market teams. Starter or a legitimate bat? Sure.
