In his defense, he pitched three scoreless innings prior to that after Tito emptied the bullpen.
The offense owns this defeat... Failing to score in 7 innings after they had come from behind to forces extras.

I do agree that Salazar has things to learn, as he does have control breakdowns (such as today) which can prevent him from going deep into starts AND he has had a lot of starts where one thing leads to another and what had been a good start snowballs into a bad one.

...and this is why Tomlin, not Salazar is the ace of the staff...AT THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT. With Carrasco on the DL, and Kluber struggling with his consistency, the guy who's winning games and stopping losing streaks is Josh Tomlin. Tomlin is at best, a #3 starter on a championship caliber team, but right now he's the best we have. Salazar has the potential to be a #1, but he has not learned his lessons yet, and his mental discipline in the face of adversity is suspect. There is a reason that Kluber, Carrasco AND Tomlin have contracts and Salazar doesn't....he hasn't earned it yet.

Tomlin is 31. Prior to his 3.02 ERA in 10 starts last year and his 3.72 ERA this year over 5...this career best ERA was 4.25 in 2011.

So he has either suddenly figured it out-which can happen- or he's juicing. Or he missed most of 2012 and 2013 with Tommy John. It took 2014 to for him to figure it out and now he's a better pitcher.

I can't explain it. He doesn't have great stuff but he doesn't walk people so he makes teams earn their runs.

Tomlinson curveball is one of the games best. I don't remember him having such huge break and sharp bite to it before last year. I think that's his biggest difference.

That said, using his 5-0 record for him being the Ace is asinine. It's the most useless stat in a pitchers resume.

Kluber still has the best FIP of any starter. Slightly ahead of Salazar.

it's called polish....he's a polished pitcher. A lot of the pitching is mental discipline. Kluber has it. Carrasco and Tomlin have recently developed it. Salazar is getting there but still prone to losing focus. It makes all the difference in the world in consistency and in getting the most out of your talent. Very simply, it is staying within your game and maintaining focus and calmness when encountering adversity.
