I'm not saying the football team would get involved or care. Only that nobody gives a shit about 80-150 students.sleeper;1792045 wrote:I doubt it. The football team doesn't care about this shit and certainly Urban wouldn't put up with it.
I'm on the fence between appreciating how much better this was handled than Missouri and not wanting to support Drake.

And business is a lot easier than pre-med or engineering, yet people still failed out of that path and had to find another major they can get a degree in. That was back when I was in college - can't imagine how dumb some of the students are at third-rate universities today.Heretic;1792008 wrote:lol, sounds like some people must not have been college material. I took an Intro to Logic class and the only hard thing about it was that it was 8 a.m. during winter quarter. A real bitch dragging myself out of bed 4 days a week to attend it.
Hell, in grad school I was arguing about an answer with a guy, and after the teacher told us my formula was correct the guy STILL wanted to go with his answer. I just stared at him dumbfounded and said "but the prof just said I'm right".

I agree that whole deeper, what's the true meaning bull shit is so annoying. Last weekend we went out to the bars here in BG and I noticed this kid who I knew from my freshman year at BG, the guy thought he was some genius because he got an easy ass Philosophy degree. He's now a DJ at bar haha that $40K was so worth itgut;1792065 wrote:And business is a lot easier than pre-med or engineering, yet people still failed out of that path and had to find another major they can get a degree in. My brother-in-law has a $50k job working in PR for a university, but he still DJs on the weekend and picks up an extra $500-750 a night. Granted that's not a some nasty BG bar, but still.Classyposter58;1792074 wrote:I agree that whole deeper, what's the true meaning bull shit is so annoying. I love how Engineers believe their curriculum validates them being "smart"...unfortunately many degreed Engineers have zippo common sense and struggle having any kind of success in managerial positions. But continue patting yourselves on the backs and telling each other how smart you all are...in the meantime those of us with MBAs will continue running the planet to the best of our abilities.

There are plenty of simple MBA programs. If not a top 10-15, MBA really doesn't mean much other than the ability to pass a graduate level program. Plenty of 22 year old's go from a 4 year degree, straight to some mid-level MBA program, which doesn't make them good at management either.Tiernan;1792183 wrote:in the meantime those of us with MBAs will continue running the planet to the best of our abilities.

So, a friend of mine sent me this article. I figured I'd add it to this thread, instead of creating a new thread for it, as the thought process behind the topic of the article can easily make its way to OSU, also.

In a lot of cases, it checks the box. If that's all you're looking to do, go nights and hopefully company may pay for it. A top 10-15 program is really for people looking to change companies or careers in the near future, or if your company really values it and you want to stay on the "star" path.iclfan2;1792195 wrote:There are plenty of simple MBA programs. But 2-3 jobs out, or 5-6 years it matters very little relative to what you've done since getting your MBA.
I think it's really dumb to get your MBA out of undergrad. You'll barely get a premium, if any, for the degree. You aren't contributing much for people with real work experience, nor do you get the benefit of seeing how it could have applied to your experiences. Not to mention, you may want to change jobs or careers a few years down the road and time has already diminished whatever value your MBA had.

An MBA isn't really going to make anyone a better manager of people. It's just a tool-set to help make better decisions.Tiernan;1792183 wrote:I love how Engineers believe their curriculum validates them being "smart"...unfortunately many degreed Engineers have zippo common sense and struggle having any kind of success in managerial positions.

Every quote from that imbecile was increasingly asinine. She started out stupid and by the end sounded like a raving lunatic rambling on in the final minutes of a SWAT standoff. Holy Shit.

"a tool-set to help make better decisions..." jesus Sparky you proved the point for me. What does a good manager do?...He makes better decisions! I swear I need to offer a course in self-improvement to just OC members. But I'm not sure there is enough alcohol in the world to get me past the futile frustration that would cause me.gut;1792229 wrote:An MBA isn't really going to make anyone a better manager of people. But these people are "better-qualified" for a job now ... because, you know, a Bachelors Degree to go with this level of maturity.

That's not correct. A manager can make great decisions and fail because he's lousy at coaching and developing people. We are talking the difference vs. soft skills...most MBA programs, most degree programs for that matter, do little to develop soft skills.Tiernan;1792281 wrote:"a tool-set to help make better decisions..." jesus Sparky you proved the point for me. In HS or college? ACT?kayo;1792159 wrote:How'd you do in English?
HS? Mostly As, some Bs.
College-only took two composition classes and got As, they were a joke
ACT-lowest of the 4 subjects, the reading and English sections I got somewhere around 25/26. I only know that because my composite was 31 and math/science were both 36.
Typing on a phone on ohiochatter with autocorrect and you caught a grammatical error. Congratulations.
