Don't think anyone knows. I was reading comments on one of the articles and you'll see anything from "Matta's resigning/retiring and players are leaving" to "he gave them a tough love postseason speech about needing to get better and those guys got upset" to "they're highly-regarded recruits who didn't get enough PT and are stuck behind other players".

In other words, people throwing any possible idea against the wall to see what sticks.

Just really bizarre, IMO. Assuming Thompson stays instead of leaving to go overseas or wherever, they'll have their starters and Kam back, but no actual experienced depth barring getting some grad transfers. And the one I've heard most often linked w/OSU (Cullen Neal, New Mex) is kind of a lesser version of Lyle stat-wise with a worse FG% and assist-to-turnover ratio.

Not surprised with Mitchell, seems to be family protocol.

Ricky Doyle transferring from Michigan. Opens up a spot for them to sign one of the best recruits left in the senior class, Josh Jackson.

Big 10 has to be leading the nation in transfers.

A lot of people are crawling out of the woodwork calling for Matta's head. I thought it was funny at least one person brought up Tom Izzo as a coach who doesn't have players leaving after their freshman year. Lol he does lose to a 15 seed in the first round of the tournament tho!

Considered one of the best graduate transfers for this offseason, NEC POY formerly of Sacred Heart will transfer to Cincinnati.

Top 50 recruit of the class of 2014, Kaleb Joseph will transfer from Syracuse to Creighton.

The Champions Classic next November...using Rivals rankings, obviously they will shuffle a bit, but still, there are 26 5-star recruits in the class.

1. Josh Jackson (Kansas)
2. Harry Giles (Duke)
3. Jayson Tatum (Duke)
5. De'Aaron Fox (Kentucky)
6. Malik Monk (Kentucky)
7. Bam Adebayo (Kentucky)
10. Frank Jackson (Duke)
11. Miles Bridges (Michigan State)
17. Wenyen Gabriel (Kentucky)
18. Josh Langford (Michigan State)
26. Sasha Killeya-Jones (Kentucky)

#12 Terrence Ferguson is considering Kansas, #16 Marques Bolden is down to Kentucky/Duke and #20 Jarrett Allen is considering Kentucky.

Without looking it up, that feels like how it has been for the last 3 years for UK/KU/Duke. A little odd to see two MSU guys on there.

Cause Bill Self hasn't seemed to cater to them in comparison to other programs. I'm not hating on Self, it's just odd to see so many 5* guys go there when, year after year, they dont get to do what freshman are doing elsewhere, despite, at least in their mind I'm sure, being just as talanted.

-Josh Selby
-Cliff Alexander
-Cheick Diallo
-Carlton Bragg
-Andrew Wiggins (to the extent Self had him stay within the system)
-Eijah Johnson

It obviously hasn't been all of them. Julian Wright, Xavier Henry and some others have been good for Kansas right away. But it does seem Kansas, more than many other places, has struggled to get the mostnout of big time talent as freshman. Se fishnet going to change what he does, and why should he? He keeps winning lol.

But that doesn't mean as a top talent who could play and win anywhere I wouldn't have second doubts about them...

It's tough with the Self/KU/OAD thing. Lets be realistic, many OAD's come with an attitude and their decision to be OAD is made up before even picking a school. This was the case with Josh Selby, Kelly Oubre, Cliff Alexander and Cheick Diallo. You can't really knock KU for that.

The knock on Self is more that he doesn't really get much out of the single year he gets these guys. I'm sure that's a combo of the player, his attitude, Self's relating to them, etc...so I can see why certain OAD's might shy away from KU.

What you can't argue with is...the lack of production from many of these OAD's hasn't really hurt KU in the win/loss category. I mean, in the OAD and era, Duke, Kentucky, KU and UNC are far and away ahead of everyone else in the W/L category...and who has gotten the most elite recruits? Those schools.

I'm sure Self probably doesn't WANT those top recruits because he likes to build experienced teams. But when the best player in the country wants to come play for you, you can't exactly say no lol.

In a perfect world, he would get the guys who are highly rated, but not because of their uber-pro potential. Perry Ellis, Russell Robinson, Mario Chalmers, Brandon Rush, Wayne Selden, Trevor Releford, Tyshawn Taylor, Thomas Robinson, Sherron Collins, he got all those guys for 3+ years. Many of those guys were top 25/5-star recruits.

Beard spent the first 20 years of his career in the state of Texas. He went to UT, started his coaching career at Incarnate Ward, was an assistant at Abilene Christian and North Texas. Was on the Texas Tech staff under the Knight's for 10 years. This isn't necessarily about what is a better job, but more about what what he thinks might be the best situation. He's got a history, a ton of talent and is in the Big 12.

Yup. Heard his kids are 2-3 hours away from Lubbock and that was a big factor too.

I guess it was the perfect opportunity. Not something you see every year though, if ever.

George Karl is apparently interested in the Vegas job. Karl, whose reign in Seattle during the Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp years still yields significant cachet, would offer the big name UNLV fans are clamoring for to bring their once proud program out of irrelevancy. Twenty-five seasons have come and gone since the Runnin' Rebels last appeared in the Sweet 16.

Sure, Karl is 65 and not the picture of health. But if he could manage to stay the course for five years, with his NBA pedigree, Karl just might be able to turn the culture of mediocrity around and restore a historic franchise. Elite players will come to Vegas. Karl could be the right man to govern that kind of talent. It would certainly be interesting, at the very least.

North Carolina's Justin Jackson and Kennedy Meeks have declared for the NBA Draft, but will not hire agents.

Joel Berry and Isaiah Hicks will return to Carolina without testing the waters.
