I also didn't realize until I was reading about this that women's basbetball is so irrelevant that NCAA tourney games hosted by OSU this weekend got booted to St. John Arena in favor of the OHSAA boys tournament in the Schott, ouch lol.
I only wish that the NIT game, along with the boys tourney, was in St. John as well...I hate the Schott for the (lack of) atmosphere it creates.

Most everyone does. I've only been in it once but it was for HS stuff.

Still has to suck to get bumped from your home arena by high schoolers

They aren't going to move the HS tournament that is scheduled every year for a chance that the women would get home games. Also, the women only average about 5000 in attendance. It won't be much more than that for the NCAA games.

The state tournament will bring in around 115000 probably for all 12 games.

If I'd have known the girls were playing in St John arena I might have gone. I love going back to that arena. I'm not saying it's better than the schott, but St John makes me feel like I'm going back in time.

I'll say it is, at least for the college game. Schott is far too sterile of an arena and it never seems like the crowd is a factor in the way it can be in a lot of arenas.

Ohio State vs. Florida from Columbus starts at noon. Winner likely will go play at Monmouth (they play George Washington at home) on Wednesday.

Typical OSU performance. Little to no effort like most of the season. Harris had a nasty dunk but otherwise nothing to talk about here. On to next year.

Only saw a bit of OSU this year, but to barely squeak by the MAC champ and to lose solidly to anyone ranked higher than them seems like what everyone would have expected.

The question is....will next year be any better than this year was for Ohio State?

As long as guys continue to improve, I'd think the answer to that would be yes. This year's problem was, that with all their youth, they stunk playing together early in the year and lost a few games to lower-tier teams, as well as got blown out by more name opposition. They were up for Kentucky and Virginia, but stunk against teams you should kill if you're capable of playing with those two. Over the last month or two, there was a good deal of improvement. They beat every "should win" B1G opponent they had and even stepped up to beat a couple quality teams in Michigan and Iowa, with MSU being the only team that was truly capable of overwhelming them. Down the stretch, they didn't have Tate and in the NIT, they didn't have Bates-Diop, so their bench was way short and they had to compensate for missing two guys who can hit double-digits on any given night.

I think, as is, they'd need a HUGE improvement from their inside guys (Thompson tends to be too soft a lot of the time and Giddens is a foul magnet) to be an overall upper-tier team, but I can easily see them being a 5-6-7 seed next year if their current roster continues to gain experience. They were listed as one of the youngest teams in all of college basketball this year, and it showed with all their turnovers and inconsistent play-to-the-level-of-the-opponent showings, but talent-wise, they have the potential to be good.

I think this was huge. They started the season losing to teams they shouldn't have and just when they started to get better they lost Tate. I wrote them off then and yet they still managed beat Michigan and Iowa. (I think Tate was out for Michigan but I don't remember for sure) And then they lost Bates-Diop for the NIT, I'm not surprised they lost in the second round. I'm a little surprised they won in the first.

To my point...from Lori Schmidt of The Fan...

"Attendance for the OSU men's NIT game today: 8,185
Attendance for the OSU women's NCAA game: 2,558"

The D-1 Championship game(which my alma mater won!!!) had more than 13,000.

Hell, basketball outdraws football anymore for the OSHAA anymore. That's pretty damn impressive

And Ohio needed a 25-5 run in the final 5:30 of the game to beat them

Attendance was 3,500, which really isn't terrible for a tournament like this. Just over half of OU's average (just over 6,000 usually).
