That Duke Butler game was so overrated. One of the more boring basketball games, that was only made into a "classic" because of Butler's run and the almost made half court shot.

No it was like 30-30. You're thinking of the UConn one the following year. That game was not overrated though, may not have been the best shooting game but it was tense the whole time.

Last night was defined by terrific shooting and was a great game overall

Last night's game was way better than duke Butler. Duke Butler sucked until the final 4 minutes. Last night's game was awesome. Even when nova made a run to go up by 10, it was still great you watch because nova was just doing everything well.

Oh I recognize it. Was one of the most telling plays in IU history. Ask their fans...they celebrate it like a national championship (sorry Laley).

I wouldn't say Butler/Duke was overrated I thought is was a good game but definitely not as good as last night. Now Duke/Uconn in 1999 might rival last night but I just remember a lot of heartbreak from being 12 years old watching that one.

Duke/Arkansas 94
Kentucky/Arizona 97
Duke/Connecticut 99
Illinois/North Carolina 05
Kansas/Memphis 08

Probably up there as the best I can remember in-terms of competition, intensity and drama.

Definitely a good list. The UK/Zona game in 97 that one might top the list.

Arizona's whole run in 97 was crazy. Down to the wire every game, basically.

Illinois/UNC had one of the best comebacks ever. Not sure how OSU beat them that year, Illinois was an all time great team that would have won if not for the bad start

Illinois should've lost to Arizona. So, call it even.

What made Duke-Butler so good was the David and Goliath slant. Butler represented the absolute closest thing the NCAA Tournament has ever seen to a Cinderella winning it all. That the tiny commuter school was from the state of Indiana and had a real-life Jimmy Chitwood in Gordon Hayward leading the Bulldogs on their magical run only intensified the Hoosiers angle. And if Hayward's shot were just three inches shorter, instead of one of the more dramatic finishes in national finals lore, you have the greatest college basketball story ever told.

They lost to an all-time great team. They got off to a bad start because they were getting their ass kicked. Carolina withstood the run and made the plays down the stretch to win the championship.

Last night is a prime example of how every single second in the game matters. North Carolina didn't play well for a long stretch in the second half, and guess what? They made a great comeback, but came up short.

Lost my bracket pool on that game. An Arizona win would have sealed it for me. It was the last chance I would have to win the pool my basketball buddies and I organized for people in our high school every year, after so many near-misses over the years, so not only was there money on the line but a ton of bragging rights and pride. My best friend needed Illinois to win the pool. I talked so much fucking shit when Arizona went up 15 with four minutes to play. I walked around the house completely listless for an hour afterward.
