12 lower seeds have won in the first 27 games. Has this ever happened before?

This year seems like it has to be pretty high on the list.

A lot of these lower seeds should either be higher or they've just been here so often.

Stephen F. Austin looked like a 12 seed tonight, and part of that was probably that they've been there before. Agree completely with the assessment above.

Might be the best 14 seed in memory. They destroyed a team that just played in the Big XII title game.

It's crazy because SFA had a top 50 KenPom before the dance.

Northern Iowa, an 11-seed, is 68th.

Notice a trend though?

SFA, 27-5
Hawaii, 27-5
Arkansas-Little Rock, 29-4

Teams with elite records are the ones that pulled off upsets.

My daughter entered 3 on ESPN and has only missed Baylor, WVU, Purdue and Mich St and in 99.9% on one of them.

Just read on ESPN Stats & Info's Twitter that it's the first time ever that a 13, 14, and 15 have all won on the same day.

Maybe late to the party but I saw that the Big 12 hasn't had anyone make the elite 8 in 3 years....that is unbelievable to me

It's early, but two more 11 seeds (Michigan and Northern Iowa) appear ready to join in on the madness today and add to an already crazy number of lower seed victories. Each is winning big right now.

Weber State is also lingering around in hopes of becoming the second 15 seed to crash the party.

It just struck me that the last game of the first round is underway. There is still an awesome tournament ahead of us, but I'm a little sad. I live for this time of year as a sports fan. It's my favorite thing.

This has been an excellent couple of days.

The committee pulled off one of the worst jobs seeding teams ever. No clue what numbers they used, but awful.

Wichita is the best 11 seed (Pomeroy has them as a top 15 team) and SFA is the best 13 ever IMO. The group of seniors has 15 losses in 4 years. How anyone can say they aren't an 11 seed is beyond me.
