Now that Peyton is done.

Mine:

1. Brady
2. Montana
3. Manning
4. Elway (wanted him 2nd or 3rd and if needing a drive to win it he might be my #1)
5. Marino (wanted to go Steve Young)

Great consideration: Farve

Don't know where to rank: Brees

These are interesting. Not really any definite slots for any of them.

Elway and Farve were similar. Elway more reliable when needed I think. 5 Super Bowls....Farve has the MVPs but one was ridiculously over Marshall Faulk.

If you look purely at stats, it isn't all that close. Elway threw for 4000 yards one time in his career with a high TD year of 27 and a completion % of around 57%. Favre threw for 4000 yards 6 times, had at least 27 TD's in 11 years and had a 62% completion percentage. What kills Favre is that he threw quite a few picks plus Elway has the SB appearances.

You can't just downgrade Montana, Elway, etc...because their numbers don't match up. You're crazy to think those guys wouldn't have similar numbers if their careers were the 90's to present vs the 80's to 2000.

For instance, Elway's highest passing attempts per year was 605 and he only was over 550 twice. 605 wouldn't even rank in the top 5 in 2015.

I wasn't arguing in favor of Favre over Elway as you can see my top 5. I agree that stats can't be argued, in some cases. In today's league, Elway would likely be chucking the ball all over the yard as most teams do.

Passing numbers are tough...it was different. Farve and Elway didn't get to pass in the dome or Miami. Elway didn't have great receivers as much as Montana and Marino did early on. Farve IMO had a little better receivers and running backs throughout his career than Elway...but they are close. Elway and Farve had a career of getting passes through when they had no business doing so.

Montana and Brady are close...I think Montana consistently had better skill players around him but I think Brady can make more of the difficult passes. Montana is basically Brady but more likable.

Marino is Manning with 2 fewer championships. From the insanely quick release to the lead feet.

Hard to compare as the 3 younger guys all throw so much more and passes are shorter for higher completion %

And I'll be honest...I'm biased to Elway because he was the only QB who could consistently beat those ridiculously talented Browns teams back when I hated them the most....that right there wins in tie-breakers with me.

1. Montana
2. Manning
3. Marino
4. Favre
5. Elway

Brady will go to #3 on that list when he retires. Unless he gets another SB win, then I'll take him up to 2, maybe 1.

He was my hardest one to place. His game was similar to Manning/Brady....but he had better weapons than both of them. Great touch but mediocre arm. 4-0 in Super Bowls and one incredible long drive to win one. Maybe his greatest mark was keeping Steve Young as a back up....had Young been given the chance I think he wins the previous two Super Bowls also
